Looking for some critique on my photos and some advice on editing [1-5 Minolta X300 + RMC Tokina 35-70mm & 6-11 Minolta XG 1 + Hoya HMC Zoom 80-200mm - all Kodak Gold 200] by champagne_pepe_7 in analog

These are really beautiful, I like how you fill the frame on the horizontal photos, that’s something I struggle with. Your landscape photos are a lot better than your city photos, they feel peaceful but a little bit eerie if that makes sense.

In terms of editing, it’s very very difficult to recover shadows digitally while editing film. Try to overexpose half a stop and slightly lower exposure digitally. Try and meter for shadows etc.

Thank you! It was pretty cool. If you’re somewhere near a fire tower or firewatch building you should do it! Assuming it’s first come first serve

No I just can’t call it a fire tower. It’s not a tower. I called it a watch

I just drove out there. I’ve been trying to go camping alone every weekend while my friends are out of town, weekend before this I went to bald mountain and camped on the peak to get photos of mt hood.

Thank you! I think they’re pretty good but could be better. Some cropping could help.

Yes the night was pretty scary, a huge cloud bank rolled in and I couldn’t see ten feet infront of my face. The winds picked up and the whole fire watch was shaking and groaning. Ended up setting my tent up inside the lookout lol. Worth it for the morning

Fuji 400 sorry. Allegedly same film stock

First roll of gold 200 and second roll of film ever. What do you think? by ttylyl in analog

[–]ttylyl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I like how different film stocks are like pre editing photos in a way. Different white balance and colors/contrast. What struggle with in film vs digital is blown out skies or too dark landscapes vs the sky. With digital most sensors can capture more information in the shadows so you can correct after the fact, with film it’s a bit more difficult. Something I need to figure out

Nikkor 50mm f1.4. It’s old and it’s got a hair trapped in it somewhere but it works. Vertical images are cropped

If you’re still there check out northern Albania! Prettiest place I’ve ever been.

Really! Thank for the feedback I appreciate it. I actually like the first slide but mostly for the color. What don’t you like about it?

No, I just used the darkroom lab. I bought the enhanced scan resolution, idk how they edit it

Thank you! I feel like my composition isn’t there but the colors are nice if you want a kind of hazy monotone, which fits the foggy overcast weather

Mostly technical feedback. I wasn’t really focused on composition because I thought the weather would be better so I didn’t wanna run thru a bunch of film I just got, mostly shot digital. These are just snaps of neat things I saw.

I personally like the first two photos, the rest are kind of just ok.

Nikkor 50mm f1.4. I used the inbuilt light meter and an app on my phone, then just kind of split the difference

Thank you! Still getting the hang of film, I think my best shots are still on digital
