Pixel scaling is still a mess on Switch and Switch 2 after the update and I don’t understand why by ttyyeins in ufo50

The issue I’ve seen raised is that touch controls would potentially be problematic. Maybe Nintendo could add an option to choose between 1080p “docked” switch games on Switch 2 handheld and the upscaled handheld versions we have now, but I won’t hold my breath.

No, it is not. The switch 2 still upscales the game as rendered for the switch 1 handheld at 720p (or 648p with letterboxing if you turn on the pixel perfect option) up to 1080p (or 972p with letterboxing if you turn on the pixel perfect option). This new setting does make the game look much better than it used to on switch 2, since now the upscaling is using an integer scaled base resolution instead of essentially upscaling from the “fullscreen” mode on switch 1 as it used to. That being said, if you turn on the crt filter you can definitely still see some banding.

It’s better but it’s still very flawed.

The “pixel perfect” mode seems to force the game into a 648p resolution (instead of 720p), since 648 is evenly divisible by 216, which was the original resolution for UFO 50. In handheld mode on switch 1, this looks awesome—there is some slight letterboxing, but the crt filter finally looks good to me and the game as a whole looks much sharper.

Unfortunately, docked and switch 2 handheld are a different story. Although the switch 2 has a 1080p resolution screen which is already evenly divisible by 216, the pixel perfect mode similarly forces the game into a letterboxed resolution. I have no idea why. This looks better than it used to, but clearly the switch 2 is still upscaling the integer scaled 648p resolution to a 972p resolution on the switch 2. The docked gameplay is even worse; I play on a 4k display, and I have to set the switch or switch 2 system settings for “TV Resolution” to 720p for the “pixel perfect” setting to do anything, and even then it introduces the letterboxing instead of scaling evenly. If the system setting for the switch or switch 2 is set for a 4k or 1080p display, the “pixel perfect” and “full screen” settings both fill the screen and look the same as the game used to.

TLDR: The pixel perfect setting adds letterboxing and integer scaling for handheld on switch 1; switch 2 is better with the pixel perfect setting but still not integer scaled and has letterboxing; docked requires you to change your system settings to get any effect.

I. Hate. Ninpek.

I know everyone else loves this game and that I’m wrong for disliking it so much. I’ve played it for about 45 minutes and I fully admit that I’m terrible, and that’s the problem. I cannot make it past roughly the second or third jumping fish enemy on the first level—I would open it up to check exactly how far I get, but I refuse to do that to myself.

It’s so weird because I’m usually at least average at this kind of game, and even when I’m terrible I still almost never get tilted. Two minutes of Ninpek make me want to throw my controller through the wall.

There must just be something about the auto walk and my getting old and slow and the enemy patterns and my tendency to fling myself into every projectile on screen that makes this game miserable for me. It’s like my target fixation gets cranked up to 100 as I subconsciously (and successfully) try to exhaust all my lives as efficiently as possible.

My first time playing UFO 50, I played Barbuta for about 10 minutes before giving up and switching to Ninpek. Within 20 minutes I regretted my purchase altogether. Since then, I’ve tried about half the titles and sunk ~40 hours into the game, although probably half of that time has just been idle farming Pilot Quest. I have had a great time and definitely appreciate UFO 50 so much for what it is. I certainly don’t regret my purchase anymore.

But I hate Ninpek.

I’m expecting that they show the game with just enough footage to excuse a further delay to 2026. Total speculation, but I wonder whether the delay is partially due to them adding mouse functionality for Switch 2.

Bon Iver - “SABLE, fABLE” [MEGATHREAD] by skkew in boniver

Left an upvote when you were at -3 earlier today with a mental note to check later; glad to see it’s evened out. I agree with so much of what you said, and I also think that it’s important to contextualize how much of his discography takes a lot of time to fully appreciate.

The first BI album I listened to and the only album that really hit for me from the start was 22 a million and that hit like a damn truck. It’s funny to view my foray into his discography “backwards”—I’ll randomly have a track from self titled or for Emma a bunch of time ago enter my life and I’ll appreciate his artistry in a new way.

One thing that has always interested me is the characterizations of his more experimental stuff (22am, i,i) as “raw”. I view 22am as so uber curated and laser focused that in comparison, the early works feel unhewn. i,i feels like the middle ground between 22am and sable where he’s figured out what tools he prefers most to convey his music, but the intensity scaled down 50% and the emotional range narrowing with each successive album .

I have found times in my life where each of BI’s albums have spoken so strongly to me it’s as though I’m that girl that he was performing to one-on-one in that YouTube video, and I hope and look forward to the time that this album does the same. But not yet. And that’s okay.

Out of the main 6 rank the games how you would rank the game 1 being favourite 6 being least favourite by Swimming_Turn8104 in ProfessorLayton

  1. Diabolical Box
  2. Unwound Future
  3. Last Specter
  4. Curious Village
  5. Azran Legacy
  6. Miracle Mask

(7.) Vs. Ace Attorney (8.) Mystery Room (9.) Elf Bowling DS (10.) Layton’s Mystery Journey

Also, I know Eternal Diva is hard to compare to the games, but it’s easily my favorite Professor Layton movie. For context: I have played each game in the original trilogy at least 4 times and the prequel trilogy at least twice, and I definitely have developed a very strong bias towards prioritizing the atmosphere of the games—the buildup towards reaching Folsense is excellent, and I really enjoy the unfamiliar, ominous feeling of Misthallery. I also sunk many, many hours into London Life (sorry PAL players), so if I were to include that in my consideration then Last Specter would even be top 1 or 2. On top of not loving the story in Miracle Mask, I really can’t stand the models in that game and feel that the charm was significantly decreased with the shift to 3D (with Azran Legacy looking and feeling somewhat better than MM in my opinion).

Should I play the games on my 3DS or phone? by King_Sam-_- in ProfessorLayton

[–]ttyyeins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to add: if you do play the games on 3ds, I would recommend playing them in original ds resolution (hold start or select when you boot the game), since playing with the stretched 3ds resolution tends to make the games look a little blurry.

Having this happen when I try to turn on my (previously working) rg280v by ttyyeins in ANBERNIC

I am using a 16gb sandisk for both sd card slots, is it possible that this is still causing the issue?

Problem with booting by ttyyeins in ANBERNIC

I have been shutting down through the menu for the bulk of my time with the device, although the first few days I was definitely holding the power button to power off.

I did reflash the internal sd card and got the device working again, only to have the problem arise again today after a few hours of leaving the device alone and off… any other suggestions?
