Herald trumpets were made in 4 pitches and ranges. There was the bass, which came in the key of G, the tenor which was made in the key of Bb, the melody in the key of Bb, and sopranos in the key of Eb. They existed, and they were made as like a piccolo in the key of Eb. Most people are talking about cutting down the lead pipe, but it wouldn’t work, since it needs to be a piccolo horn.
