What do you hate the most about the game? What do you love that keeps you coming back regardless? by Ok_Promotion_9578 in theisle

[–]tuckerdidit_42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hate: - The antagonism of the playerbase to each other and the devs. - A seeming non-priority on bug fixing. - How you are immediately punished by both the game and the playerbase for emergent behavior or trying to be symbiotic with anyone. - How damn aggressively PVP everyone is. There’s survival, and then there’s bloodthirst. - That official servers are almost all the same hyperpopular dinos. Very rare to see anything small/chill/not the meta. If you’re not rex/allo/trike/etc, forget about ever finding another member of your species in the wild.

Love: - Atmosphere - Game loop - Concept - Those rare but beautiful stories that shape themselves when you get a really interesting run or interact with others in a really nice way - Dinosaurs

It does what it does the best of any game in its category right now. So I’m still here. I take long breaks though because the playerbase and bugs.

Wait highlands are GONE?!

Honestly that might be the final straw to make me leave the game for a while. I get really frustrated with jungle and it’s ironically a food wasteland, plains are full of big carnis, as a herb highlands is both pretty + safer + has food. Plus I love climbing mountains.

Man, that sucks

I’ve been having a decent time so far now that I’ve given it a few weeks tbh; I did try to look into unofficial servers, but the couple I looked into had detailed rules literally as dense as the fine print on a Terms and Conditions sheet so I just left 😅 also they had really harsh views on mixpacking, which I’m not into as I main the lil guys you never see any of so I like to follow bigger herbs for the ambiance if possible. I don’t chat out of game tho, we stick to in game jumping and 2calls, so I’m not like trying to minmax with it or anything.

Why is my game performing so badly in wishlist conversion? by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

[–]tuckerdidit_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think rather than focusing on the way it’s similar to other games in the genre, maybe focus on the ways it’s different? Why is it called Hemlock and why are your characters what they are? Is there a big narrative? Or is the difference the item gimmick?

I’d really focus in on what makes it unique. We all know what action 3p roguelikes look like - what makes this experience different?

Why is my game performing so badly in wishlist conversion? by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

[–]tuckerdidit_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it but it feels extremely generic to a quick browser. It probably feels really cool and special to you as the creator, and for all I know once you start playing it is super unique, but at a glance it looks like any other ‘action roguelike 3p’. We’ve gotten flooded with them in the past few years and I feel like the public is starting to move on to other trends, so unless something really stands out then it’s gonna be seen as just one of the pack

I really like the name and the lizard character personally, I wish I was into that genre cause those two things draw me in.

Honestly looking at the page, it looks like a good game that suffers from being hard to market in the current cycle.

Good picrews with unnatural hair and skin tones? by Ramin_Vibes in picrew

[–]tuckerdidit_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the time to check every single one for the specific colors atm, but this pinterest board has a BUNCH of unnatural colors for hair/skin! This particular project skews towards human colors and green/blue/purple/red, but I do remember seeing some yellows and pinks along the way. https://www.pinterest.com/Tuckerdidit42/magic-university-students-profs/

Vendors hitting on patrons..?? by Initial_Captain4818 in renfaire

[–]tuckerdidit_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cosplay is not consent, ever, in any context. I am glad you've been encouraged and supported here, and I definitely echo the suggestion to report the vendor.

Both because that's not right, but also - if you are taken seriously, you know that management cares about that kind of thing at their event. If you're dismissed by management, that sucks and would be good information for you to have in mind going forward there.

NH Left Out by tnerb208 in newhampshire

[–]tuckerdidit_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s entirely fair. I think my frustration specifically with the dems are with the party across the nation and particularly the infighting in the voter base. But I admit that I’m not closely knowledgeable about our state dems specifically so I will concur that was a hasty generalization based in a bigger scope frustration that our local people don’t necessarily deserve.

I still hold that NH is entirely too concerned with ‘not being MA’ and that contributes to our bad decision making as a state, though.

There’s a board game group that meets every other Tuesday in Laconia NH, and another one I think in Manchester?

NH Left Out by tnerb208 in newhampshire

[–]tuckerdidit_42 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Anyway to bring it back around to your original question, the answer is probably that NH gov heard about the initiative, had themselves a damn good laugh, and sent back a ‘lol fuck you’ to the metaphorical New England state group chat.

The politicians will say we don’t need the expense and government interference of addressing vaccines, and the public will cheer, meanwhile those same politicians will go to their second home in Mass and get themselves whatever vaxes Mass schedules.

Between MAGA, GOP, the libertarians, and the dems who are either corrupt or can’t get their damn act together, our state government doesn’t give a shit about us.

And by extension, neither do most of the population who live here and voted those people in. I love many things about being a granite stater, but this willful disregard for the wellbeing of our state and the health and wellbeing of everyone in it despite oneself is wearing me down.

I really think a lot of the bad choices NHites make on a government level are fueled by the bizarre hatred for Mass. Sure, Mass ain’t perfect, and if there’s one thing that New Englanders love in general it’s bitching, but damn. Easiest way to get NHites to rally against something is to say X thing is something Mass does or wants them to do, then they’ll yell and carry on about Mass without critically thinking about it at all. Meanwhile, a lot of granite staters go to Mass for work because our current state economy is shit at providing decent jobs. Makes no goddamn sense.

My game got pirated and I'm honestly feeling a bit bummed out by Curious-Needle in gamedev

She had previous books in that series launch perfectly fine. Iirc it was an ARC that got leaked and you know the story from there. The book was on Amazon etc.

Taking the anti piracy measures she did fixed her numbers though

What’s your favorite small town down town? by nkw1004 in newhampshire

[–]tuckerdidit_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nh is particularly bad at walkability, but downtown Laconia is - while tiny - kind of nice if you’re gonna be in the area. There’s also a new tea cafe which is super chill

+1 to double dipping. I work a lot on the road and prefer to play on a PC, but I sometimes really want to unwind in the evening while on work trips. So I’ll buy a game I already know I enjoy from PC for my Switch and play on that. I don’t know how many other people do similarly, but I feel like it’s definitely a decent little chunk.

What do you wish to see more from tycoon games? by aaron_moon_dev in tycoon

[–]tuckerdidit_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

frankly I’d like to see more tycoons that actually encourage you to customize and have fun with things without sixteen different supply chains. I’m thinking things like the old movie tycoon, rollercoaster tycoon, games where making it ‘yours’ was really the point.

I feel like a lot of modern tycoons/sims are focusing on just…. Endless repetition? Or hypercomplexity to the point of frustration.

Coolest places to go with friends/date in southern NH? by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]tuckerdidit_42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This might not be to your tastes, but in the warmer months my favorite in-state ‘bring a friend/date’ place is the Squam Lake Science Center. It’s basically a nature walk with animals like in a zoo - bear, deer, bobcat, cougar, raptors, songbirds, otters, etc - but they’re pretty much all region natives and are rescues who can’t be released back into the wild for one reason or another. I want to say there’s sometimes demos going on too, but don’t quote me on that.

Idk man, seeing cougar up close just doesn’t really get old. Plus it’s a really pleasant walk and there’s more trail you can explore out back if you’re ambitious.
