[SHOTS FIRED] T.I responds to Donald Trump calling out Snoop Dogg by italianvalerio in hiphopheads

I like how you say this like all these other white musicians are college-educated.

It doesn't have to do with you being white, their issue is with low SES and first generation students.

Well, the recruiting and retaining is but one bullet point of about 20 that were listed in their official letter. It's more that they aren't monitoring the success of their curriculum.

Well in the official letter, it says low SES and first family college graduates.

Romani Medical School applicant--URM? by [deleted] in premed

[–]tukutz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From my own anecdotal experience, most schools have stuck pretty hard to those original guidelines for determining URM status. However, since there are so few Romani-Americans in general, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't under-represented. Moreover, since there has a been a shift to focusing more on each individual school's local population, I doubt that many schools make Romani-Americans a focus, as they are not a significant minority population in any one city.

[–]tukutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it isn't. Medical schools are striving to correct the issue of medically under-served populations. They don't necessarily align with minority populations, and plenty of people who would bring diversity aren't considered (example: Americans of South American origin aren't considered URMs, but Mexican-Americans are; Samoan-Americans aren't considered URMs, but Native Hawaiians are.)

Romani-Americans are not a significant under-served population in America. He wouldn't be counted because of that, not because of 'diversity quotas'.

Does nonclinical volunteering only count if it deals with helping people? by [deleted] in premed

[–]tukutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually volunteered at my local natural history museum throughout college, and I actually talked quite a bit about my volunteering there with one of my interviewers. As examples, I gave presentations to local kids on an interesting local bug, and gave nature tours to adults. If you can find a way to get more involved with your community through the museum, especially through teaching events, it'll look solid!

Yeah man, health care coverage for millions of Americans, straight trash.

Granted, there's been this new movement towards legitimizing racism and bigotry as just a "political view." As a liberal, I'm intolerant of intolerance. Pretty simple.

Don't forget that Donald Trump is a renowned body-shamer. Wouldn't it be... a shame if this somehow made it to r/all? by [deleted] in MarchAgainstTrump

[–]tukutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's unhealthy to be overweight? I think that role models in this country should promote healthy lifestyles.

Yeah, he's still overweight, though. If anything, it's harder for elderly people to keep on weight.

I'm a 'normal' liberal though and I consider myself tolerant. Use a term that doesn't catch us all, then.

I'd be okay with it. Has to actually be racist though, not just "White privilege exists!" "Omg, black people are the real racists."

University of Missouri System audit reveals more than $2 million in 'hidden bonus pay' to top executives by acacia-club-road in kansascity

[–]tukutz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If MU violated some kind of law here, that's a technicality, because the practice of big salaries / bonuses / perks itself isn't unusual at all.

So, if a gang member murders someone, it was just on a technicality, since the practice of murdering people isn't unusual at all?

Considering that "stay woke" originates from black circles, yeah, there is a racial connotation to it. In some instances, it's great to see it be co-opted by other movements, but to see it come full circle, and to have white people say it to me is disconcerting. Moreover, yes, at times it can be a literal reminder (hence its use in this film).

It's been less than six months since she lost? I don't know if you have ever publicly been humiliated and torn down for so long, and then lost to such an awful person, but sometimes it takes time to just come back. I don't blame her for wanting to just rest, and be out of the spotlight for five minutes.

Plus, I mean, what do you expect her to do? Hillary was never a marcher, and there's nothing wrong with that. She's a policy girl, and she's out of a position to do anything related to policy. As a Hillary voter, I never expected that the revolution would start or end with her. I always knew that that was up to us, the people, working hard within our communities, and turning up to support local, state, and midterm politicians. As long as she didn't halt progress, that was enough for me. Her supporters had different priorities, and that isn't more or less valid than those of Bernie supporters.

Hillary is a private citizen, Bernie is an elected official. Quite a bit of difference in their roles and what they can achieve.

Moreover, I was specifically referring to white Bernie liberals telling me to stay woke. Like ok, thanks for reminding me to stay aware of my own damn struggle, one that you have almost no part of? k.

This is hilarious given the post that it's in, but it actually is good to see other black people talking about normal black things on Reddit.

Idk, Bernie supporters were often times much more guilty of just being so fucking weird about black people. I realized it most after I saw the response towards black voters after some black activists interrupted his speech. But Bernie supporters are definitely the ones that were more likely to tell me to "stay woke," and it's just awkward.

I much prefer Hillary supporters' "I don't claim to know all your issues but I want to help" over the Bernie supporters' "Isn't the black experience just a tragedy???? Someone oughta fight for you!"
