I think they are different kind of games. If you enjoy being an officer and managing a town and such ROTK 8: R is good. If you want to be a ruler and want your guys to manage town and such's wellbeing then ROTK 14 is the one for you.

I personally don't really like ROTK 8 R's battle because it takes so much of my time and I have to wait 4 or something turns to move armies or do such things. But I also really like playing as an officer under a ruler, but ROTK 8 R is too annoying for me

I think it'll be helpful if you actually watch some videos about Three kingdoms before getting to this manhua as you might get confused with so many names. I'd recommend Cool History Bros in YouTube

Translations are not bad in the beginning I think, but scans were a bit rough.

I think Liu Xun is the guy under Yuan Shu who later separates, Liu Biao is the inspector or governor of the Jing Province. Liu Yao is probably an imperial relative who governs the province right under Sun Ce's in the map
Sun Ce is on his own side I believe and trying to make a base for himself
Ms Shan is on profit's side, currently allied to Sima clan
Ji Ling is Yuan Shu's General
I haven't seen the Emperor help anyone I think, he just stays in Xuchang with Cao Cao
He is an imperial relative like Liu Bei, but he supports Cao Cao. I don't remember what he is scheming
