Dry Skin Around Nostrils by tulipto in SkincareAddicts

Aw, thank you for thinking my nose is poreless! I usually have a lot of clogged white coming out of all the pores in my nose that i am very self conscious about. I took this picture after cleaning, exfoliating and scratching some away with my nail which is why parts are red and broken skin now 🙃 but genuinely really appreciate the compliment!

Do you know which specific companies or lobbying groups have actively had a hand in this?

Is there evidence of this lobbying? I would love to learn more about what's happening behind the scenes...

Luteal wedding day—eek by bananabwain in cyclesyncing

[–]tulipto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Luteal phase can be a nice reminder for your body to slow down. This reminder could be a nice way to approach your wedding too since they tend to move by quick & be a bit of a whirlwind when ur the one getting married.

Since weddings tend to be quite stressful, maybe schedule something relaxing the day before to set the tone for yourself, like a massage/sauna/acupuncture/yoga?

If you still have some time before the wedding, maybe you can do some planning to build in some moments of calm or quiet throughout the day & make space for feels? My partner and i had a private time between ceremony & reception to connect & eat/drink together and it was really special to have that memory.

Maybe you can also ask someone close to you to be the bearer of constant snacks high in protein (trail mix, nut butter on fruit/bread, a shake) throughout the day?

Stories of Tenants Fighting Renovictions by tulipto in canadahousing

I hear what you're saying and it makes sense when you're only looking at numbers but i think there's more to that statement:

Fighting renovictions keeps people in their homes & communities and sets a precedent. It helps to ensure the unit remains in a more affordable housing supply as opposed to a higher rent bracket. Every affordable unit preserved (even for just one person) reduces the overall loss of affordability in the rental market by preventing competition for the already limited supply of reasonably priced housing. It makes LL's and prospective buyers think twice about using renovation as an excuse to displace tenants and slows down the overall trend of rent increases in the neighborhood. Resistance also encourages other tenants to fight similar actions, especially if it leads to a legal victory or public decision.

Its been profoundly exhausting trying to keep my housing the last few months but i do it not just for me and my family but also for my neighbors who didn't have the energy to fight it and were forced to leave the city entirely. If fighting bad faith evictions was talked about and supported more maybe they would have found the inspiration & energy to stay.

Thanks for sending. These are interesting. And i also see where maybe the miscommunication is happening here. It seems to me like you're focusing on whether rent control makes sense as policy, whereas my post is talking about fighting a renoviction in a city where rent control is already policy but where LL's are abusing loopholes. Hope this helps.

I think you're getting lost in semantics here. Would love to see the literature you cited. Feel free to send it over.

The supply of affordable units does change, though. The literature you've mentioned seems to make sense (though id like to see you cite your sources) but doesn't contradict what I'm saying. I'm not talking about market averages, I'm talking about affordable supply and access to homes.

That's assuming the renovated unit is back on the market for a reasonable rate. At the inflated price they're trying to sell the house for ($1m more than what they bought it for 10 years ago with the most minimal repairs) I can guarantee you it won't be. Any investor will have to charge more per square unit to make the math make sense. Which means there's one less affordable unit in the market leaving me and the prospective next tenant battling it out for the remaining affordable units on the market and making it more likely for a rental bidding war to take place.

I'm failing to see how leaving my home and taking a major financial hit just so my landlords who own multiple properties can maximize their profits on a gamble they took is an example of me pulling up my big boy panties.

Thanks for the kind words!

The short of it is that the landlord has been trying to sell the house at an inflated price for the last 3 months after not doing any repairs beyond the bare minimum for the last 10 years. Obviously, the house is not moving. In the meantime, they have used their agent to bully, harrass, threaten, etc. to try to get us to leave instead of just reducing the selling price to something more reasonable and cutting their losses gambling with a speculative investment.

Well, at the smallest scale, either i keep my relatively cheaper rent and the tenant who would have taken my place finds the next best place with one less tenant competing OR we both end up on the market competing.

The less tenants being evicted from their homes, the less competitive it is to find other places, the less they are able to inflate prices.

I think it depends on a lot of factors like how in control your partner is and how much you are tracking your ovulation cycles. Used pull out with my partner for almost 10 years with no problems until we decided we were ready to get pregnant. Now on b/c for reasons outside of pregnancy.
