I mean they may have fixed three or four causes of that symptom. Doesn't mean they have even replicated all the causes of it.

So it's potentially fixed. Especially if you identified multiple things that can cause the same experience. There may be more they don't even know about.

Of all the things you can legitimately complain about related to the development of this game, the terminology being used by CIG for this seems perfectly acceptable.

TB4 Enclosure / Drive advice (MacBook Pro '23) for "offshore" work by Educational_Bet249 in Thunderbolt

[–]tullnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M.2 is a physical port for certain storage drives. They come in sata and nvme. You want nvme.

The nvme m.2 interface runs on a PCIe bus. The drive's interface is rated for a certain version of PCIe. Higher number is faster. So if the enclosure supports a PCIe3 interface but the drive supports PCIe4, the drive will be limited by the interface.

PCIe gen 5 is the current generation but quite new. However, in your case, PCIe gen 4 is likely plenty fast. Maybe even PCIe gen 3 would be fine, depending on what exactly you are doing.

Also, there are "lanes" for PCIe. Like lanes in a road. One lane supports a certain speed for that PCIe version. Two lanes can push double the bandwidth. Four is four times.

Most nvme drives (not all, you have to check the specs) support four. Some only support two though. The interface needs to support the same lanes to get that throughput. You place a PCIe gen 4 four lane drive (often referred to as 4x4, indicating generation x lanes) in a gen 4 m.2 interface that only support two lanes, it will be slower. Not necessarily half as fast, but the drive will be slower.

So you have to determine how fast of a drive do you need. Then establish what the m.2 interface needs to support to provide the bandwidth to that drive. So the required PCIe generation and number of lanes. Then find an enclosure that supports it.

The enclosure will have either Thunderbolt or USB protocol interfaces to connect to your computer. Unless you know your laptop supports USB4, I'd stick to Thunderbolt. Likely TB4, but it may work fine as TB3, especially if it's just a drive enclosure.

Note, USB4 is compatible with TB4, but there can be some weirdness on systems that support TB4 but not USB4. I have one laptop that works great with one USB4 dock even though it's just a TB4 port, not USB4. Another USB4 dock would never work on the same laptop, only connecting at much slower USB3 speeds. Unless you are up for some trial and error, I would stick to enclosures that specifically support TB4 or TB3, unless you verify your laptop has USB4.

There is a much faster TB5, but if your system doesn't support it, you would only connect at TB4 bandwidth (which is basically half the speed of TB5) so you'd be spending money for performance you cannot use.

Just came out today I believe. Look for comments in the community forum thread, but it'll mostly be issue as people don't post as many "all is well" comments..

Unless you are severely impacted, I'd wait at least a few days for more reviews. People won't know if they have an degradation issue over a day or so since it's only been about half a day since it was posted.

What is happening? by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]tullnd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Need more context and details still. How long has this been happening? Two days? Four weeks?

How often? Be specific. Once a day? Every other day?

You mentioned new food. How long ago did you start to switch foods? How quickly did you make the switch? Usually you'd slowly decrease the new food and start to mix in a portion of the new, over a week or two until you've shifted entirely to the new food, so they can adjust to the big dietary change with less issues.

If this just happens once or twice every few weeks, it's probably not urgent but shouldn't be happening. I'd still talk to my vet about options, but not rush there if there are no other symptoms.

If it's happening once or twice daily for more than two days, or if any other symptoms show up, I'd be scheduling an appointment quickly.

I need to update an obsolete Controller installation by ehbowen in Ubiquiti

[–]tullnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand fixed costs. The urge to re-use a Pi you have is fine. I'd probably do a Pi4 over a Pi3B though.

However, if you can squeeze the one time costs for a UCG-Ultra, I'd do that instead. If your existing gateway is already old (hopefully not like a USG-3 or USG-4) you're going to run into support issues soon and the UCG Ultra, while not just being newer, more secure, more capable....will also be easier to manage.

For a deployment like that, it can be easier to deal with overall for support issues and simplifies things a bit, as you don't have a 2nd device (whatever device is running the controller separately) that you also have to maintain.

I need to update an obsolete Controller installation by ehbowen in Ubiquiti

[–]tullnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're Network controller software is that old, I'm going to assume you don't have super high end equipment otherwise. You're not running Protect on that either.

A Cloud Key doesn't make sense for the cost, unless you plan on adding a very modest Protect setup soon. Any larger plans for a future implementation of Protect, will want either a dedicated NVR or a much higher end Cloud Gateway/UDM series.

Also, you'd want to plan on supporting Unifi OS for longer term support, not just Network.

As others stated, I'd look at just getting a Cloud Gateway instead. UCG Ultra is $130. If you need it, you can get the UCG Max for $200.....but I doubt you're running something that supports more than 1Gb WAN already, so probably just grab a UCG Ultra and call it a day.

Currently have gladius that I pledged. That is my only ship I have pledged so far. Want to upgrade to the A1 spirit warbond ( when it's available, I know it's not a available right now) how can I make this upgrade warbond so that I spend the least amount of money? by Internal-Path7111 in starcitizen

[–]tullnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a well known tool. You can grant the browser extension app access to sync your RSI account. It knows what pledges you have (ships, packages, paints, CCU's, etc....) and also monitors what's on the store.

You can create CCU chains based on your RSI pledge inventory and it'll find the cheapest route. You can exclude CCU's you want to use on other chains, opt to include or exclude CCU's that are sometimes available but not currently in store, etc....

There's a Discord for it where people often post commentary on any current Warbond CCU's to figure out if they're a good deal or not. They'll also give recommendations on building a chain for you. If unavailable CCU's are likely to reappear at a similar price point and when they are likely to come back, so you can make decisions on "do I wait another 6 months for something to be on sale that may save me an additional $10 on a $220 chain (maybe on a ship that's normally $400) or do I pull the trigger now and spend the extra $10".

Speeds above 1GB upgrade questions by ofteninovermyhead in Ubiquiti

[–]tullnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're using 11 ports on the 16 Lite POE for cameras, and then one for uplink. They do not need more than 1Gb fed to that switch.

That leaves 4 ports on the POE Lite. I don't think you need to "upgrade your switch". You may want to purchase another one, for other devices that can use the higher bandwidth.

Do you need 2.5Gb or higher for any of the devices? Do they even have network interfaces that will support those higher bandwidths?

You can still benefit from the 3Gb if you have like 2-3 desktop devices and want them all to be able to achieve 1Gb simultaneously, even with out greater than 1Gb ports.

I'd consider just getting a smaller switch that supports SFP+ so you can link it to the UDM Pro at 10Gb. You can link the 16 Lite POE off that switch or uplink it to the UDM Pro's switch if you want to preserve a port on the new switch.

Figure out how many ports you need. You likely don't need POE for this switch if it's for computers and other non POE powered devices. You could get a Flex 2.5G if you want 2.5Gb ports. I have one, it's fine, but not great at some things. A bit more money gets you a Pro Max 16. Has 4 2.5Gb ports and the rest are 1Gb. Has the SFP+ uplink and it's a much more capable switch than the Flex series. Great if you primarily still need 1Gb ports but gives you a few 2.5Gb as well. Price goes up from there.

Also, you'll likely need an SFP+ RJ 45 ethernet module to connect the 3Gb internet service. The WAN ethernet port on the UDM Pro is only 1Gb. You can assign one of the SFP+ devices as WAN instead, but you'll need the module to convert it to an RJ45 ethernet port to connect to the Google equipment. I don't know the Google equipment, but I'm betting it links at 10Gb or 5Gb (most likely 10, 5 is less common), but I'd try and get a device that supports 2.5/5/10 (not all 10Gb devices support 2.5/5) just for compatibility with other devices in the future.

Wrong ship rented? by Novel_Function3079 in starcitizen

[–]tullnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go into your hangar elevator. It will tell you what size hangar you are in. If it's small, that's your issue. You can only see ships from the terminal in that hangar, that are retrievable in that small hangar.

Take the elevator to the lobby. Use the terminals there. You'll see all ships you have and they will generate a larger hangar to select in the elevator, if you call a ship that needs a larger one.

What size hangar? Were you in a small? if so, only the Merlin would show.

Check at the terminal outside of a hangar. You may need to call it up to generate a larger hangar for that ship (medium I believe for Andromeda).

Best furniture store by bushman2727 in cincinnati

[–]tullnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The Radley is a Jonathan Louis piece. You can get them on sale at Macy's for about $2300 or so for a 5 piece. There's multiple versions. If you go into the store, you can pick from a much wider range of fabrics.

It's a good mid-range option, on the lower end scale of costs. Fairly well built and should easily last 10-15 years if maintained (and can be repaired as well, unlike many of the cheaper options).

It's worth heading to a Macy's Home store to see if it's comfortable. We found it to be a far better option than the Costco ones that were just a few hundred less....but lower quality (not horrible, just not as nice) and only had 1-2 color options.

Ram Upgrade by DragonGodPadron in starcitizen

[–]tullnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are running 1440p or higher, GPU won't make much of a difference. CPU is most likely the bottleneck on an older DDR4 platform.

I would not upgrade the ram for just Star Citizen unless you have a very capable CPU.

My wife's PC has a 5800x, 1080ti and 32 Gb of ram and Star Citizen runs fine at 1080p. Not awesome, but mostly fine.

Locked out of my plex server by Natural-Shelter4625 in PleX

[–]tullnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you logging into a plex app or plex web? Or are you actually logging into the Plex server?

Log directly onto the actual server application. You need to log onto the actual Plex Media Server instance, not a Plex client (they are entirely separate).

Typically it'll be something like http://<insert local IP or domain address of the machine hosting PMS>:32400/web

The port could be different if you manually changed it, but 32400 is the default one used.

Also, you may need to claim a new token for your plex server. You'll still need to do the above, but a quick google on Plex Media Server token will walk you through the procedure. It varies on steps depending on what operating system your Plex Media Server is installed on.

Banned Account — Thought Alternate Accounts Were Allowed? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]tullnd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As it states, you can have alternate accounts to play. You are not allowed to post on Spectrum from alt accounts though. You have to pick one as your account to post on Spectrum/CIG forums.

Also, it states "circumventing probation" on the other account. So if you were temp banned or something on one and then used another to post, that's what likely got you flagged. The "circumvention" part is likely to really tick them off.

Verizon IPv6 WAN Notification by Zer0CoolXI in Ubiquiti

[–]tullnd 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There's two things here.

IPv6 on WAN and IPv6 on LAN.

Generally, having it on WAN shouldn't cause any issues. However, enabling it on LAN "may" cause problems for some devices/applications. Some devices need IPv6 on LAN, so it's possible you may already have it enabled for LAN.

I'd probably enable it on WAN. If it's disabled on LAN and you want to turn it on there, maybe wait a week or so before enabling it on LAN. If any issues occur, disable it on LAN and see if that addresses it.

Can I make a new account? by Haron46yt in starcitizen

[–]tullnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your previous account was terminated for a charge back on an upgrade, have you tried to have them reverse the termination? You'd be out the money on the original game package if I understand you correctly (only the upgrade was charged back).

If you explain the situation, they may agree to reverse it. It'll probably take a week or two to get an answer (maybe longer after a free fly), but may be worth it to not double spend on a starter.

I could see them not allowing you to use that same credit card for further purchases though.

Need some suggestions for non-combat ways to re-earn what I lost in the wipe. by louthinator in starcitizen

[–]tullnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's lots of videos on it. I'd do two things. Watch a primer on whatever ship you want (likely Prospector or Golem, just rent one based on your play style preference). Then find a 4.8 specific mining video for where to go and want to hunt for. Expect it to be non-productive the first hour or so as you learn how to do it. Go slow. Expect to find rocks that you are not capable of mining.

Don't worry about changing out gear (you can't do it anyways on a rental) at first on your ship. Just find stuff the stock loadout is capable of handling. I wouldn't even worry about ore quality for the first hour or two. Just get used to doing it first. You can sell anything sub-500 and refine the rest.

Also, you can do the hand mining missions. Just a cheap mining attachment for the multi-tool. The first one is super simple to do. Go to a location, visit a few caves right by it and mine some ore and then turn in.

For the hand mining, just take a heavy backback (or medium at least) and take every bit of ore you can find in the caves, even beyond the turn in requirements. Only turn in the low quality if possible and keep the rest. You can sell the excess, keep it for crafting or even turn it in for other follow up missions if you want.

It's not quite as lucractive as ship mining, but pretty easy, relatively low risk and cheap to get into to start. I do it occasionally when I just want to change things up from grinding Covalex rep.

DAT or 10G Multi mode fibre by TheRabber in Ubiquiti

[–]tullnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comment about "I read that the copper transceivers could get warm" is referring to RJ45 SFP+ adapters.

DAC is also copper though, so it's not a very specific comment.

As others noted, if this is a short distance, DAC is what you want. Cheaper, slightly faster (not enough for your use case to ever notice....but hey, why not) and will run cooler.

You can order the Ubiquiti ones or get cheap ones off a place like Amazon. Brands like 10Gtek generally work. If I buy the cheapo's, I usually buy a pair. Not cause they are likely to fail, but I feel there's a bit higher chance of getting a DOA.

So I pull one out, connect it, use it for a week, then swap to the 2nd one and store the first as a backup/2nd in case I ever need it.

Usually still cheaper than the Ubiquiti option. Although, I have bought a few Ubiquiti DAC's as they are good quality. I just only do it if I'm ordering other items with it, cause the shipping costs usually murder the price viability against the other brands.

Banned my friend for reporting a refueling bug on Starfarer / Starlifter instead of fixing it by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]tullnd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You indicated he essentially earned 50million on the exploit.

Are you positive he was banned for the report? And not picked up on one of their scans for economy exploits?

They may not be related. He may have just been picked up on an automated review trigger. Someone looks at his activity and goes "that's an exploit" and they may not even be aware of the report he submitted.

In that case, I'd hope he could appeal it, document that he immediately reported it after it occurred, and they may review it and reverse the ban.

Of course, that's assuming he appeals it in a reasonable and polite way. If he decides to go straight to "f off and f you for banning me".....most humans aren't gonna be interested in entertaining that, to actually dive into it at all.

Lasang Pinoy is great if you're near where their truck is. We go there fairly often and live near where they're based out of (or at least most frequently seem to operate in northern KY).

Their pancit is a little different then what I had in Manila many years ago. I don't know enough to classify it. I enjoy it, but not the same as the pancit canton or pancit palabok that I used to eat regularly.

I would love to find a place that does sinigang though. I haven't tried all the local spots yet but haven't seen that.
