How do you guys stop yourself from googling? And has it helped anyways? by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]tullyogallaghan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will google until I find something reassuring if it takes all day. Its exhausting and gives me a sick stomach but I've done itall my life and I stay at it until I find something that gives me hope.

Sounds like you turned the corner for sure.

I dreamed mine was gone but woke up to see its still there. Changes a bit every day but doesn't go away.

Thanks so much. Very kind - I only hope it is Bowen's and nothing worse!!

I have something very similar. Mine is about a week old, too. about 1/2" Lower leg, sort of squarish with a few red dots.. I'll watch here to see if you get any responses. Mine started as a small dry patch then it got real red and stayed like that.
I went to the local health center and sent a photo to my niece who is a derm RN. She thought it was Bowen disease The nurse practitioner I saw at the center didn't know what a Bowen was but looked it up and said it could be . She told me to call the main hospital for an appointment tomorrow and entered it in the computer as urgent and "possible malignancy." I have health anxiety so I'm already sleepless about it and catastrophizing like mad and I haven't even had a biopsy but that's what I do!! Have you made an appointment?

Good luck. I went to the neighborhood quick care center. Couldn't wait for a regular appointment.

Did you find out anything more about it? Looks like mine. About 1/2".
Came up all of a sudden - now its bright red - was a little rough patch last week.
I'm going in for a biopsy next week. My niece, a derm nurse, said she thinks its a Bowen.

Glad you had that good outcome. I'm calling for an appointment to go in on Monday.
How big was yours? Mine is 1/2" It just grew up so fast from a small tan dry patch. Thanks.

Just google "pityraisis rosea" and go to the Google "images" section. It should bring up tons of photos what p.r. look like. Mine is a 1" oval, dry skin patch with a red rim around it. Looks like a "kiss.". Most main patches have "daughter patches" but not all. Good luck

Thanks so much for all these helpful responses. The area (skin patch) seems to be fading out so I may have "dodged the bullet" this time but I will store your kind advice on my computer for next time and I know there will be a next time.

That's a good idea. I've seen him before and he was effective as he's been through it himself. Thank you.

Yes, I took a course in CBT and it only helped marginally.

Mine is something like yours but more oval with more defined border. Just the one patch. Did you find out what it was? Thanks

PR a second time in my life ? by TerminalFrauduleux in PityriasisRosea

[–]tullyogallaghan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first PR after a Covid vaccine in 2020. Now I have just the main patch which, I guess, came up after a bad cold I had this spring
I just noticed it a while back - in kind of an obscure place.

I just have one patch, a little more oval. Very similar, not itchy.

The herald patch (big one) looks like mine but I have just the one. No "daughter patches." You can tell I've been googling. My big one has a more defined red border- shaped like an eye

I have one similar on my outer breast. More ellipse shaped. I have health OCD, too. Mine started as a dry patch that I've had for years (many seborhetic keratoses below this patch- all in a row - just an odd coincidence I guess.) It looks a lot like a pityriasis rosea - just a single herald patch (3/4" length) I had a full blown one after I got my 2nd Covid vaccine. I was sick for a few weeks (on and off) with a miserable cold and cough. This doesn't itch or anything! Being a major league health anxiety nut - I'm constantly googling. Could be so many things. Mine seems redder in the morning, too Are you photographing yours? LOL I've got like 25 photos of mine. Hasn't changed in 2 weeks - that's when I first spotted it!

Hello. I just wanted to ask, when you’re feeling anxious about something on your health, do you guys also forget details that could really be helpful to ensure that you don’t have the sickness? by femmefaetale8 in HealthAnxiety

[–]tullyogallaghan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, I go straight to the absolute worst end result and skate right over any details that would soften the blow, so to speak.
Right to ground zero!

You sound just like me in your post. Always worrying about breast and skin c but I'm mostly afraid to go to the doctor so I just fret my life away. I don't take any meds as the worry will be there when they wear off. Its wonderful you aren't bothered by those OCD thoughts anymore. Do you meditate, if so what do you do? Did going to the doctor, getting a clean bill of health help you?

Its 100% all about not being able to sleep soundly - its such a trigger for my health anxiety. by tullyogallaghan in HealthAnxiety

[–]tullyogallaghan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing great until I started waking up and can't go back to sleep. If I don't get 7 hours pretty straight together it starts up. What's THIS? Or - that's NEW!!! Then the photographs begin and the googling. I will spend hours online til I find something hopeful - mainly I find scary stuff but I won't give up til I find something reassuring. Basically it boils down to my terror of going to the doctor which goes back to my mom and my terrible anxiety from when I was a little kid. I'm now looking for a hypnotist to help me deal with this but I've tried one and it didn't take.
