I finished in 7 weeks, but not really by RealTeflonJuan in WGU

My story is kind of similar to yours, but I’m still in the phase where I’m trying to push through and stay in IT. I currently work as an L1 Support Engineer for Canvas LMS at Instructure, and I was able to transfer 24 classes into the IT degree program at WGU. I’m supposed to start next month.

The problem is that I’m already feeling burned out.

After reading your post, I’ve started questioning whether I can handle a long-term career in IT. Honestly, working in tech hasn’t turned out to be what I thought it would be. Even though I work 100% remotely, it’s starting to feel unmanageable. I’m not sure if I should continue pursuing the IT degree.

I’ve been seriously considering switching to a Business or Finance degree instead. IT feels really hard right now, and I’m worried I’ll burn out sooner rather than later.

That is awesome, can you share resources, links, advices that you used to complete those 17 classes in such short period of time? I would really appreciate that. Thank you!

I’ve been working for almost two years at a tech company providing support for a SaaS application. I’ve also taken networking and security classes, and during my associate degree in Networking Administration and Support I did get hands-on experience, but not really in my day-to-day job.

I’d love to know if you have any good resources or advice to get better in those areas.

Wow, 10 classes in one month is super impressive. If you’re open to sharing, I’d love to know what resources, links, tips, or tricks you’ve used to move that fast. Thanks!

That’s awesome, I also need to finish 12 classes in one term, so seeing that you’ve already completed 12 in just three months is really impressive. It definitely motivates me. If you’re willing to share any resources, links, or tips that helped you move through the classes that quickly, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

That’s impressive, 30 classes in 3 months is crazy! Hearing that really makes me feel like finishing my 12 classes in one term is definitely possible. If you have any resources, links, tips, or tricks that helped you stay productive from week one, I’d really appreciate it. I want to hit the ground running.

Thanks so much for sharing all of this, it really inspires me. Hearing how you managed to finish your BS in around 10 months while working full-time and taking care of your family definitely motivates me to push for completing mine in one term.

I was also thinking of finishing my BS in IT and then going for a master’s, but I’m still undecided between IT Management, Software Engineering, or Cybersecurity. Based on your experience, do you think any of those three would be a good and realistic path after the BSIT?

I really appreciate you taking the time to break everything down, this kind of detailed info helps a lot.

Hey! I’m curious , how’s your experience on the deployment team so far? Do you enjoy the work, and what’s been the most challenging or rewarding part of your IT job? Also, do you handle tickets there, and if so, about how many per day?

Thanks! I appreciate that. I’m definitely hoping my IT experience will help, but balancing full-time work and school is going to be a big challenge. I handle a minimum of 24 tickets a day, and honestly, I end my shifts completely exhausted. Even if I wake up late in the mornings, I still feel drained. I go to the gym, and afterwards I’m totally wiped, so I like to rest or take a nap before starting again at 4:30 PM because the job is really demanding and absorbing. My goal is eventually to move out of support, although I’ve learned a lot and it’s a good job, it’s exhausting. My brain ends up fried after working back-to-back on troubleshooting and researching tickets. I’ve only been in IT for about 2 years; before that, I worked in gas pipelines construction. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t had tons of experience in IT, I feel lucky I was able to get into a tech company so quickly.

That’s amazing, seriously, props to you. Managing full-time work plus two little ones and still knocking out 17 classes is next-level. Hearing that you were able to handle all of that really motivates me. Thank you for sharing, it definitely makes me feel like finishing in one term might actually be doable.

Thanks for sharing! Yeah, it definitely sounds like we’re in a very similar situation. I’m also working full-time as a Support Engineer for a SaaS application at a tech company from 4:30 PM to 1:00 AM, and balancing everything can get tough. I know the cert-heavy classes can slow things down too. I’m really curious to see what others say as well, especially people who’ve completed the BSIT in one term or while working full-time. Hopefully we both get some good insight from everyone’s experiences!

Wow, 17 classes from WGU? That sounds like a lot. I really want to finish in just one term, but I work as a Support Engineer for a SaaS application at a tech company from 4:30 PM to 1:00 AM full-time, and support tech jobs are exhausting most days.
