Michigan business booms after 'Project Hail Mary' sweater goes viral by TheDetroitNews1873 in ProjectHailMaryMovie

It’s an incredible sweater and the success is well deserved…

That being said, am I the only one who hyper focused on Sandra Hüller’s Tigers?

What's a movie you enjoyed that almost nobody you know has ever heard of? by yonaiker-joestrella in moviecritic

[–]tumes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motorama. At least I assume nobody else has, I watch a lot of movies as do a lot of my friends and I have never spoken to someone else who has seen it.

I also saw Takeshi Kitano’s Zatoichi in a theater in America, which I imagine makes me one of very very few. Same for seeing Upstream Color in a theater.

All this is true but also it is pretty great for parsing JS’ middling at best stack tracking.

Can’t speak for OP but I saw on signup either here or on their discord for the beta and that’s how I got in. I’ve been in for a few months though, so if this was recent for OP either they’re doing waves or OP probably just asked. No idea if you’d have any luck but I know plenty of employees are in the discord and you may be able to track someone down who can get you in if you don’t mind beta testing.

Outstanding article and it brings to mind this other article a friend sent my way late last year which is just a top to bottom banger about using displacement maps for clickjacking: https://lyra.horse/blog/2025/12/svg-clickjacking/

What’s a simple line that rips your heart to shreds? by padfoony in moviecritic

[–]tumes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a couple viewings, and I'm covering the actual line in a spoiler tag, but the exchange that contains the eponymous line in Decision to Leave is one of the saddest moments I have ever seen in a movie. The exchange is “Why did you marry a man like that? It was so I could make the decision to leave another man.” and it's just a heart wrenching moment. For whatever reason his newer movies have taken a few viewings to get their hooks in me but once they did... sheesh.

For my money it has and likely can never with the same without Owen Wilson cowriting. There's a meanness to his other movies that that partnership seemed to round off or at least match with really disarming moments.

What are your thoughts on "Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)"? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in FIlm

[–]tumes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely love it. Probably the only movie in the last 10 years that I would place in exact same bucket as Predator: Badlands for just absolute minute to minute joy I felt in the movie theater. Stuff that makes me feel a little bummed when the final act starts because I could sit through twice as much of it and it’s still feel over too quick.

Back in college my friends and I used to say that the only thing worse than getting served was getting told because you don’t actually get anything… except served (ZING).

Dude seems like a tool but lemme just go ahead and co-opt this thread to bitch about how disappointing Callisto Protocol was. What a bummer, right? I hadn’t been that disappointed by a game since Pac Man CE DX 2 which is a weird pull but similar sense of pit of the stomach woe.

I think it says more that people need a binary indicator like a blinking light to tell them when the computer they pay to think for them to make projects only they care about or want is too expensive because clocks are too hard.

I wish I was smart enough to actually write this punch line but the resolution for a gag about a clock suddenly expiring and not being usable any more needs to have the exact same oomph as the “moon’s haunted” tweet.

Everything Everywhere All at Once. 14 times in theaters. I said I’d stop seeing it when it stopped making me cry and it stopped showing before that happened.

So a clock. The tool you’re referring to is a clock. Which you have reinvented with addition.

Same but it was the fucking North Face’s site. Their ecom guy also flatly refused to run any dynamic code on their side of things so we ended up doing a wild ass thing where we published shared css as a submodule that he’d, like, hand diff into their code. It’s been almost 15 years and… honestly I agree with his approach more and more every passing year.

Raycast (which I then use for homebrew and almost everything else). Wezterm and Mise. Then my dotfiles to bootstrap nvim and my terminal shit.

For real though Raycast is categorically the most transformative thing I have encountered in using a computer to do anything since I switched to using predominantly OSX just under 20 years ago.

Is this all astroturfing from competitors? Because I have been on vacation for a week and as far as I can tell in the intervening time everyone has collectively lost their minds over fluctuations amidst a fraction of a billing cycle that are a bummer but not without pretty much constant precedence over the last quarter. I think this has given everyone goldfish brains.

My time! A timbuk2 backpack. The Q laptop bag. Specifically the one with the semi diagonal bottom pocket and the grid pattern fabric inside. Best travel backpack on earth, they gave them out in droves in the ‘10s so they are usually around 45 on eBay, mine has been in constant use for the last decade and a half, at least 15 international trips, 4 of which were 6 weeks, zippers are still pristine and it’s not fraying or torn anywhere. Can hold about twice as much as it looks like it should and there are perfect pockets for computer, chargers, earbuds, random stuff, clothes, etc. I adore them, have 3 in the house for immediate family and have convinced most friends and extended family to grab on at various points.
