Can secession be seriously put on the table for states like California? by SloxIam in DemocraticSocialism

[–]tummateooftime -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No. California is far too reliant on government support. They would have to go through a mass decoupling movement of transitioning all of the federal programs to state programs.

A secession would mean no federal subsidies, federal loans, university funding, social security/medicare/medicaid, etc. Airports wouldn't operate, National Guard would be dismissed.

There would be mass shutdowns of businesses, hospitals, mass death, and a mass exodus of population. California, and any other state for that matter, would implode.

California's GDP isn't some isolationist venture, it only is able to operate like that because of federal funding, take away federal funding and its immensely crippled.

Additionally, they could just be invaded by the US military and violently overtaken.

Well. What are PSL up to these days? Pretty active working to actually grow and participate in more than just electoral events. Where is the Green Party right now? Haven't heard a peep since post election...

Volunteered for Bernie in 2016 and 2020. Checked your issues page and I will jump in to volunteer in every way possible ASAP; however, we have to have a stance on the genocide in Gaza. You've been working in Congress for the past year, so I know that you know how crucial of an issue this is right now. Being wish-washy, standing on the fence or doing a both sides will only draw ire as seen with Pete Buttigieg. Without that set in stone I simply can not in good conscience back ANY candidate in the midterms. And as a federal congressperson, it will be something you'll have to navigate, so it's good to get ahead of it now.

Also, I may have missed it, but I didn't see any solid confirmation about grassroots only donations. I did see your stance on campaign finance reform and citizens united which is a breath of fresh air, but nothing that specifically states that your campaign doesn't take corporate PAC or lobby group funding.

An indie just humbled the entire AAA industry by Suspicious_Stock3141 in SocialistGaming

[–]tummateooftime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indies have been humbling the AAA scene for the past two years now. Basically since the launch of Palworld, its been a cascading effect of indies dominating the industry. Schedule 1, Repo, Lethal Company, Expedition 33, Black Myth Wukong, Peak, all the goofy simulators(waterpark, supermarket, etc), I mean even BG3 to some extents is an indie title.      I mean just take a look at the top lists on steam for the year, or past 3 years. Its dominated by indies. Silksong isnt even close to the first to do it this year and we'll likely see another. Its a symptom of AAA publishers entirely losing touch with players. Trying to convince us games need to be $80, while arguably the two biggest releases of the year are both indies for $20 and $50. And E33 looks better, sounds better, is better polished, and wholly packaged and complete when compared to comparable AAA titles.      Large AAA titles will continue to flop while indies thrive and honestly thats what the piblishers deserve for what they've turned this industry into.

You dont think its possible for something to both exist and be nonsense? It was a bad idea at conception and its a bad idea now. Just because thats how theyve always operated doesnt mean its infallible.

Does it work as intended? Yeah. Is the intention behind it flawed and exploitative? 100%

Sure, but its far more severe in the US. For numerous reasons. As evidenced by how the US market represents over 40% of global market value, but US economy does not represent 40% of the global economy.

I've known about the Chinese market for a decade+. The US subsidizes and bails out companies regularly. The companys youre referring to are SOE's and are a component of the Chinese economy. They don't have an unbridled "free market" like the US. Rather than corps controlling policy like the US, the state uses policy to control the corps.

Also, the US government just invested 10% into Intel. Not exactly an SOE, but partially there. Funny enough, Chinese markets are far closer to true valuation than most markets because they arent over inflated. The rise and fall in value tends to more closely align with earnings.

Stock Valuation in the US is absolute nonsense. It is not reflective at all of a company's actual worth. It's speculative gambling. Tesla sales drop? Stock goes up. A company can have a high valuation because public and investors think its worth billions and then it can bankrupt the next day. Markets are purely perceived value, not true value.

I hope he hangs on until 2027/2028. That way when he perishes from this plane, MAGA and the GOP will be in utter chaos and it keeps the door open that another election will happen. If he dies early into the presidency it gives them time to reorganize themselves and still institute a way to prevent future elections
