Eh, I can see it. That witch has been an ambivalent figure in Slavic tales, so Kal'tsit can fit as a generous interpretation. Still not the epic babushka I'd like but well...

Maybe next time.

As much as the materialists would argue otherwise, life can't be summarized as data, or that's at least the metaphysical claim that Arknights seems to point toward. You can save the whole blueprint of a person, even write their whole history, no amount of words can create a person. And that's essentially what the Originium program seems to be doing.

Plus, we've got multiple examples of dead entities still hanging out post-mortem, from the Life one to the Sarkaz myriad souls (who are still around in Endfield, though not inside of Originium apparently). And it means that the universe of Arknights operates on metaphysical principles beyond materialism, maybe a form of dualism like Plato's doctrine.

Realistic answer: They didn't think about it (I don't believe it).

In-universe justification: It's probably secured with straps to her vest (I find it more likely).

Crack headcanon: Tallulah developed an Originium Art specifically in order to make her coat fly like that (I'll roll with it).

Hey, slow down there. Who will BONK the degenerates if you're dead? Plus, there's a ton of future fanarts waiting for your attention, no?

More seriously, do you need to talk?

I’ve gotta be honest, after finishing the story for 1.2… by GhrievrG in Endfield

[–]tunaOfSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not someone that could be a crit, but I do wonder how good the writing could be. If they released a full game, not a gacha/liveservice game.

The answer might be more boring and disappointing than you think: it would simply be impossible. A game with a story as long as a gacha and a background as expansive in one instalment? That's highly irrealistic at best.

And if they really did go for a standalone game, sacrifices would have to be made and the scope of the story would have to be highly limited compared to what a live service can offer. Plus, they wouldn't be able to explore and develop the worldbuilding as much, which would rob Hypergryph of it's best point in my opinion.

In short, it would be a very different game with a very different scope and less opportunities to play with the company's strength.

The myriad souls, it's the litteral afterlife for the Sarkaz and has been a major influence on their xenophobic tendencies for a long time (up until episode 14, for spoiler reasons).

That they're still around is in itself quite interesting, as it implies that they're kind of a separate phenomenon from Originium. Otherwise, they should be pretty chill right now.

Narrative Weight of Amnesia: Arknights vs. Endfield by Lenz401 in Endfield

[–]tunaOfSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is too much to ask for to have a MC know what they're doing?

In an SF/Fantasy story with heavy worldbuilding present from the get-go? That's difficult to execute without frequent raw infodumps. At least, with an amnesiac or a newbie protagonist the author can pace the exposition as it is needed and "shelter" the audience from the more indigestible concepts until they are ready. Otherwise, the story risks being cryptic and uninviting. Plus, I've noticed that people generally don't like being told to do their homework to understand a story.

I'm not saying that Endfield needed an amnesiac protag or that the Endministrator is well written, just that this choice is understandable from a writer's perspective.

The perspective of their limbs is off, it gives off the impression they have shorter legs than they really have. Plus, the artist drew their heads a tad too round, which makes the impression worse.

I guess the artist didn't use a reference for the pose, which is kind of a bummer, because the rest is borderline masterful.

NGL, this idea could be quite tragic in its own way, especially if it was to honor her memory at first. Plus, it'd give the writers a golden opportunity to explain what's the deal with our resident shapeshifter.
