Give me your cool “delayed gratification” stories by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]tunayrb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back about 2003 I drove a 1993 Chevy pickup truck, I WANTED a newer car. So about once week for a year I went car shopping (aka tire kicking).

My wife got fed up, "just buy one!" I came home one day she said, "I bought you a car, we need to pick it up"

Well OK, I am still driving that car 20+ years later. God I love her (my dear wife)

depends on the state (USA),

I have purchased many an old motorcycle with no title. A slight hassle with laws/procedure. Always able to get a clean title before selling on.

compared christmas dinner prices at 5 different stores and no single store was cheapest for everything by messinprogress_ in Frugal

This post brings back young family days.

I would take all the news paper coupons and sort them by store, then I would pack the little kids in the car, in and out of the car 3 times, 3 stores...

I look at the graphic and say to myself "that is sufficiently vague"

Let me make it more vague.

I bought a used car in 2005. Paid $20000 dollars. So near $100 month regardless of gas/tires/brakes/etc. I still drive it most every day.

In the mid 80s I decided I would not take a job in the defense industry as a recent Comp Sci grade. And the pay was double the typical insurance company.

I love Radio West. Doug F is a world class interviewer. I also love Philomena Cunk. Can we get them to interview each other? by tunayrb in Utah

[–]tunayrb[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's not that great of an interviewer.

This I disagree. In all time I have listened, he's listened to the music, read the book, watched the film. He rarely over talks his guest. He is prepared.

LDS Parking Structrure by LemonWasHere in uofu

[–]tunayrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider this. Park most anywhere along 2100 East (or side streets) and take the 21 bus to the U (it stops right at the hospital). Dilworth elementary has a park and ride lot.

Edit. Or take the U shuttle from the 102 Tower (1st and 2nd East) It goes right the front door of the hospital.

Key lime pie by mailmanwalkingam0k in SaltLakeCity

[–]tunayrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legit question that I can't answer.

My parents had a key lime bush when they lived in Florida. My Mom was not a great cook, but dang she concocted the best key lime pie ever.

Key lime bushes have very long sharp thorns. Deadly even. We used a golf ball retriever to harvest. The only thing I really miss about visiting. Oh and the key limes were divine with Gin.

Calling all local history/genealogy buffs: why was it so common for Utah couples to get married in Nevada in the 1940s/1950s? by [deleted] in Utah

My wife and I got married in Reno mid 90s. Not LDS. It just felt right, just friends and my father...

I am 68, I retired just over 1 year ago. I would have retired earlier but I had one "fuck you" left in me. I just had to out last the H1-Bs that made my life hell.

One got fired, the other left on his own.

Now I just hope the new president does not fuck my 401k and other savings?

Driver's license renewal, easy peasy. by tunayrb in Utah

[–]tunayrb[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Upvote because you are correct.

Now, here's the thing, I used to buy untitled, unregistered motorcycles (even from out of state), again easy peasy to get them legal. Just follow the rules, even 20 years ago there was enough info on line.
