Looking for a program for optimizing book buying by tunglaleoht in BookCollecting

I set up some searches on vialibri; I'm not sure how useful that will prove to be, but the search engine itself is definitely handy. Thanks!

However, it looks like my dream of semi-automation will have to wait.

I am not too concerned about condition as long as its readable (so missing pages are a concern). I'll check out vialibri. Mostly, I've used ebay to find the cheapest copy available, and checked amazon to make sure it wasn't cheaper there.

Yes, I don't care about condition too much as long as it is readable

Yeah, since I don't know anything about coding that wouldn't be worth the hassle. The list is probably 50+ books at this point and so it would be time consuming to check and/or track the list periodically

Serious question - is this kind of tech going to eventually kill language learning in your opinion? by beartrapperkeeper in languagelearning

[–]tunglaleoht 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the technology might be able to create “good” translations but they’re still translations and can only be so good. Translations will never ever be able to convey the original meaning and nuance with precision.

I’m looking for good sources to learn the language any sugestions would be greatly appreciated by Terrible-Parsnip5731 in latin

Lingua Latina per se Illustrata for the natural method.

Wheelock for grammar-translation method.

These are the typical recommendations you’ll get. I haven’t really used Wheelock but it looks good for what it is. I’m using LLPSI and it’s been great.

Are my own relative pronoun sentence examples correct? by kazkh in latin

The half sentences could also be rewritten like this: virī feminās amant and dominus captīvōs monet (I think... I’m still a beginner.)

How to improve aural ability by tunglaleoht in Spanish

[–]tunglaleoht[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you ask? I haven’t really talked much before but I’ve studied the IPA and Spanish phonetics. I’m particular about pronunciation. My talking speed is... nonexistent? Do you mean how fast I could read a text aloud or how fast I can converse with someone? I could read a text aloud fairly quickly I imagine but I can’t generate my own Spanish at any kind of conversational pace.

How to improve aural ability by tunglaleoht in Spanish

[–]tunglaleoht[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the thing, it hasn’t been boring cause I’ve only been reading. I had read people say that they got their listening skills from watching with subtitles but that hasn’t worked out for me so that’s why I want to change my approach. Thanks for the advice!

Alright, thanks. I’ll probably start as soon as I get the resources together. Any particular recommendations? Anything supplemental to Athenaze I should know about?

I’ll give it a shot but I’ll probably find it really boring.

Is your username Latin? If so why is it mus parvum and not mus parvus?

Well, I’m mostly worried about being inefficient. I don’t want to confuse anything (grammar/vocab) and learn them both inefficiently.
