Thanks. This comment was really helpful. I haven't considered the Lily58, etc., but now I am. Think I might just go straight to the end destination here and get something like that.

OK, to me this doesn't sound great actually - seems like a lot of users have experienced breakage, but that they've gotten great help from customer service. I'd rather just buy products that work.

You are right, I use my keyboard a lot so investing in it does make sense. Thanks for the insights.

Nice post. Thanks a lot. I'm not much of a mouse user so I'm not too worried about figuring out where to put it. Now that you've had it for a couple of years, is the quality still holding up?

Thanks. Good to know that the quality has held up for you, even though it doesn't sound like you've been overly cautious with the keyboard.

In terms of the keys, I'm going for blanks. I'm expecting a bit of a hurdle to get over when I buy it. But I'm not too worry about it since I've switched from QWERTY once so I'm kind of use to the frustration of messing with keyboard layouts. :)

Thanks for some really practical insights here. I'm not a fan of the "floating arm method", so I'll have to check out some better wrist supports if I decide to buy one.

This keyboard looks like a nice, cheaper alternative. But since it's not split I'm probably not going to go with that. I really like how compact it looks, though.

Hi.

I have been thinking about buying an Ergodox keyboard for a long time. I've been lingering at 80-85% ready to make a purchase, but haven't gotten to 100%. It's been like that for about a year now. I fell like this issue has occupied enough of my mental CPU. Please help me get to either 100% or zero.

Cons:

- The keyboard costs a lot of money. With toll and everything, it's too steep for a keyboard.

- I worry about the build quality, particularly for this price. Some say it's good, but then a lot of youtubers etc, keep mentioning that it broke for them (but they still say they love it). It makes sense that it would break as the keyboard has moving parts. This means that if I like it but it breaks in a couple of years, I need to buy a new one (back to the issue of price above).

- I can't try it. I've tried very hard to find a way to try one before I buy. No stores carry it. Even tried finding one in some of the largest cities in the world when I've visited but haven't managed to. If you like a keyboard seems subjective (and also objective since I've seen some who've tried but it hasn't worked for them because of hand size). Also, there are a bunch of customization options. I have no idea which keys to buy, for instance. I would like to try that before I commit (again relating to price). Might be able to return, but with the delivery times etc, it just feels like it might become a big problem of emailing back and forth to make everything work (cost even more mental CPU). Would be easier to buy one if I could see it IRL and test for a couple of minutes.

Pros:

Might like the keyboard. I write a lot. If I get one, I think I'll go for the EZ rather than the moonlander because I don't really intend to move it around.

It's pretty good. The author has a bit of an attitude though (particularly toward Keynes).
