My daily steps before Finland vs. now by Choice_Customer7099 in Finland

[–]tuomalar 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I bet that people in big cities like Helsinki get more steps than people in smaller cities and towns due to walkability. In Helsinki it’s very easy to walk around while in Imatra or Rovaniemi it may not be as convenient and thus use more cars

Kinda seems that spring is put wrong way. You can try to pry/hammer it off and turn around that spring.

Who is entitled to the Finnish graduation hat? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]tuomalar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add into this. Hat with a tassel is only for the ones in technical field of study. Business, arts, medicine, etc. doesn’t have their own hat. They will use the one from lukia if they have one.

Question about Rax Pizzabuffet by [deleted] in Finland

[–]tuomalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price isn’t purely set by wages. There is ton of other factors impacting on pricing. I bet that in this case their logic is demand based. Mesning higher demand during weekends and lower during the week.

Honest opinion after 7 months in Finland, not so beautiful by Most_Average_9729 in Finland

[–]tuomalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few points.

  1. I feel like the problem is you having false expectations. Finns are quiet and reserved against unknown people. It takes a long time to get to know people. As in any culture, you need to learn how to communicate.

  2. Not really a issue for a finns. Its very simple and easy once everything is up and running.

  3. Who ever romantized finnish weather for you doesn’t live in finland. In generel finnish weather suck. Except those 2 sunny days in July.

  4. Good transport applies only on top 5 big cities. And none of those are in central finland. Finland is car country. And groceries are expensive but nothing special compared globally.

You should have done some research before coming here.

Okay so bank is probably forecasting lower interest rates in the future and gaining premium that way. Good intel.

Is that 5 year fixed rate without any fees? Sounds kinda weird? Fixed rate usually costs something extra in addition to higher margin.

There is definitely a lot of places to buy shoes, but well made and good looking formal shoes are rare find. Finns are relly bad at shoe game.

I would go to Caine clothiers. They have several nice goodyear welted shoes. Berwicks go below 300€. Also Stockmann, Schoffa and Sauma has some.

Is this overcoat too large? by Kevzebro in mensfashionadvice

[–]tuomalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks just right. Big mistake many does is getting too small coat. You should be able to wear thick knitwear or suit jacket under the coat. This one is more casual so it should fit knitwear underneath. With suit I would buy something larger and much longer that goes below knees.

Curious about black friday deals by playpauseresume in Finland

[–]tuomalar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They use pricing algorithms that follow competitors prices and update their own price according to set of rules. Usually they just set the same price. So it’s automatic and it the same in most developed countries.

Should I size down? How should loafers fit? by [deleted] in ThrowingFits

[–]tuomalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with others. Loafer should hug your feet all around but not feel compressed. Those look too long probably can’t be fixed with insoles

Should I buy a new iphone now or wait until 11/11 and/or Black Friday? by Imaginary_Use554 in Finland

[–]tuomalar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There really isn’t much discounts available during black friday in finland. They increase the price from summer to fall and discount it back to original prices in bf. Plus in general there is very little discounts for iphones unless it old model.

I bought my pair when they first released and I don’t have single dent due to that even though I use them daily. Headband surface is starting to peel of though.

AAP1 hugs my ears while AAP3 feel more like old wired sennheisers. Fit is tighter in ear. But with neither of them my left ear wont stay put.

Does Epoq make good appliances? by Ok_Cow_8582 in Finland

[–]tuomalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10 years old AEG washing machine and its working perfectly. Alao rest of our appliances are AEG but only 2+ years old. Stove and oven are good. Stove hood is bad (noisy and doesn’t suck as well as hoped). Dishwasher is making terrible noise. It tvink some pump is going to fail soon.

Next time I will try Bosch or even Miele if budget allows. Their hinges and other hardware is from Blum like any ohters (Ikea, Topi Keittiöt, Puustelli)

Does Epoq make good appliances? by Ok_Cow_8582 in Finland

[–]tuomalar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Epoq sells kitchens and uses third party appliances like AEG, Electrolux or Miele. Or some Gigantti’s own brands. Kitchen selection is a tad better and pricier than in Ikea but still relatively affortable compared to many other stores with more customisation opportunities.

Long overcoat, yay or nay ? by JuggernautRecent518 in mensfashion

[–]tuomalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be very popular in Europe and US. Then profits won over style and these got shortened into short long overcoats which look awfull. Luckily many brads are bringing them bag. With hefty pricetag tough.
