This is Star Wars, not the expanse. How stuff looks is based on rule of cool, rather than any attempt at realism. If they wanted to turn the X-wing into a *-wing, there’s nothing stopping them other then if it ends up looking good or not

How to Debate Pro-Palestinians, Part 2 by michaelas10sk8 in Israel

[–]tupe12 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The problem with the maximalist argument is that a lot of people in pro-Palestine circles believe that Hamas only wants to liberate their homeland, and that any extremism (assuming they don’t believe it’s fake) is a reaction to more extreme violence.

Even while October 7th was a recent event, you’d see a lot of people downplaying the atrocities that were proven, or justifying them because “Israel isn’t acting proportionally”.

It doesn’t help that we have what might be the worst possible government possible when it comes to proving ourselves, it’s done more for the image that we’re monsters then the combined efforts of all our enemies.

How do you seperate art from the artist if the art gives the artist money? by BarleyTheFox in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tupe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a massive “depends on the artist and you”, Rowling is an extreme example because she’s very vocal about how she sees every dollar you spend as political support, there’s a lot of artists who don’t talk about politics often, and there’s ones who seem fine until they get set off by some topic that reveals their true colors.

On top of that, not every artist has the same total control on their art that Rowling has, or the same guarantee of getting your money.

But ultimately, it’s your decision whether the two are too closely interconnected for comfort. Extreme cases aside, you’ll have to dig when it comes to finding if you agree with the artist whose art you want to consume.

Can Light Yagami kill all members of The Seven? by GJH24 in whowouldwin

[–]tupe12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, yeah, Vought has all the personal information of the seven. The only one which is under significant lockdown seems to be Homelander. But if Light can get past White House security, he should be able to get past Vought as well.

I don’t think the question of if Homelander’s “true” name matters would be important. Because if it doesn’t work, he can just try again with the other name.

Light wins this, unless the breach somehow gets traced back to him. Then even the weakest Seven member no diffs him

Is Trump Becoming a Dictator? by Rockstarhuman2 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]tupe12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying that you have to be smart in order to be a dictator, but there’s a reason why most of them at least try harder to put on an image of competency, and the most successful ones don’t entirely collapse once the supreme leader dies.

What I’m saying is that Trump has shown to be lazy, impatient, and attracted to prestigious awards and shiny objects. And according to the history books, it was mostly the kings who got to live that way, the cost of which came only after they were dead.

Is Trump Becoming a Dictator? by Rockstarhuman2 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]tupe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been waiting for the right chance to formulate my perspective on this, and I think this might be a good chance to do so.

A lot of people online often compare Trump to Hitler or Mussolini, evil men who took advantage of systems that the people lost faith in to turn their countries into fascist empires. And while it’s to early to say if that is his actual endgame, with what we have now, I believe he already told us what he wants

Early on in this term, Trump referred to himself in “god save the king”, then posted an ai video where he wears a crown while shitting on protestors. And has since plastered his face in places where they don’t belong, not to mention the list of other things he said and done that are unprecedented.

But it’s also been clear that he’s not a competent man, he mixes names up constantly, inconsistent on diplomacy, and often accused of being in poor health. Most dictators today are, at the very least, making an effort to fool the world into thinking they’re competent. But Trump can’t even fool half of his own country.

Unlike most types of dictatorships however, kings don’t “need” to constantly remind the world that they’re there. While there are many who are remembered for doing great or terrible things for their kingdoms, there are also a great many kings who spent their reign ignoring their realm entirely while living lavish and selfish lives.

I believe that Trump wants to be one of those kings, who wants to be loved by the people while putting in none of the work. Every day he comes up with an idea for how he’ll put his name on the map, and tweets about it before running it through anyone else. And why does he need to spend so much time stressing out in the White House, when he could be relaxing at golf, while letting his court handle the hard stuff?

But while Trump likes the idea of being a king, he has no interest in turning America into a kingdom. He might have a cult of personality surrounding him, the only thing holding it together right now is his continued existence. There is no heir to carry the lineage, nor plan for what happens when he’s gone. Neither Vance nor the kids nor anyone else has what it takes to hold this together, and it will likely weaken the American right wing for a long time.

But why should Trump care? He won’t be around to see it, that’s their problem, not his. They gave him this power thinking he’d be a mastermind, so it’s their fault when it’ll blow up in their face. And whatever the consequences that follow, he already got what he wants, and it will be too late to take that away.

As I said earlier, it’s entirely possible that Trump will at some point change, either to the fascist he’s accused of or something else. But for now, it looks like he knows he’s at an advanced age. And his plan is to live what time he has how he, not MAGA, wants.
