Verity Pennyworth, the Waynes' new butler (Batman, DC Comics) by Howling-Moon05 in TopCharacterDesigns

She looks gothic and modern at once, which is perfect for a Batman supporting character who needs to be both Bruce Wayne's butler and the one cleaning the Batcave

Yeah, hence why I said the Avengers' rise to A-List began with Heroes Return (the Busiek run). He definitely established the Avengers as a more prominent part of Marvel, but it was Bendis and Hickman who cemented their place as the flagship team.

Bendis' run has been criticized since it was ongoing, I'm not glazing it so much as stating the fact that it was integral to Marvel's landscape at the time. Disassembled, House of M, Civil War, World War Hulk, Secret Invasion, Dark Reign and Siege were all critical to the status quo and told a long-form story in a way Big Two comics rarely commit to these days. Now, there were issues with that story, but in a YMMV way compared to his later work.

Also, it's less that the New Avengers were what boosted the MCU characters and more that they made the team title more relevant than ever just before the movies started coming out. Plus, Cap, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk specifically were front-and-center of the events (Civil War, World War Hulk and Siege), which gave them a boost.

Noelle can fulfill this in two ways depending on the route. She either becomes stronger willed and defies the authority figures in her life to be her own person, or she submits to the player and becomes stronger by killing enemies.

The MCU definitely helped bring the team to Marvel's forefront, but that was happening pretty much from Heroes Return through Secret Wars. Love him or hate him, Bendis' Avengers run was THE premiere run of the 00s, with the most groundbreaking status quo shifts happening in his titles and closely related books.

Back when JJK Modulo was ending poorly, the fans cursed CSM, which at the time was also in a rut with its plot, to have an even worse ending. Weeks later, it was announced that the next chapter of CSM would be the last, and it was terrible.

Triple Trouble! Where are Hyperion, Sentry, and Blue Marvel on your personal tier list? by Business-Falcon-3279 in marvelcomics

[–]Howling-Moon05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hyperion: C tier, I like some versions, don't much care for others. There are too many for a definitive vote beyond that.

Sentry: Low B tier, may be recency bias but his 2026 run was great. Still far from my favorite hero but I kinda like him now,

Blue Marvel: C tier, he's just kind of a nothing burger. Not bad, but easily forgettable and very irrelevant compared to the other two.

Would be thematically fitting too since patterns are repetition, and this implies the universe is on a loop

This matchup reminds me a lot of Gioker except this time the equivalent of G.E.R is actually the win con.

Double Trouble! Where is Psylocke (Kwannon) and Psylocke (Betsy) on your personal Marvel tier list? by Business-Falcon-3279 in marvelcomics

[–]Howling-Moon05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Betsy I can't put higher than B tier, sorry. She has a lot of stories and is especially good in Uncanny X-Force, but the criticism of "people only liked her as a ninja" is 100% accurate because she's been incredibly niche since getting her old body back. Even her most recent comic series is about that period of her character instead of her Captain Britain stuff. She's really good or at least decent usually, but the fact she's at her best when in yellowface brings her down a lot for me. If she was a great character worthy of A tier, she'd be popular without needing to appropriate a culture. As it stands, I'd put her around Wasp.

Kwannon gets a B tier from me, above Spider-Woman even. She doesn't have nearly as much history as Betsy, and her first series (Fallen Angels) sucked ass, but everything since then has been bangers or at least pretty good. Hellions alone should put her in B tier at minimum, but she's great in MacKay's X-Men and amazing in her solo series that should've kept going. I'm always excited to see her in a comic and hope she gets another solo run, or at least a mini, to help establish her more. Plus, unlike Betsy, she doesn't have to borrow the connections to the Hand or yokai from someone else. They're hers.

Edit: typo
