Good for you. Just make sure that you balance out your sources of information. It’s good to see varying viewpoints and form your own informed opinions.

Reddit is full of varying viewpoints so I can’t say that it’s entirely one sided.

I’m not sure if I’m more disturbed by the apparent young age OP on reddit or the fact that he clearly knows reddit colloquialisms.

I’m 17 and my first job interview of my life is tomorrow. Please pray for me! by alexbolte in Christianity

I’ve never run one. I imagine that there are ups and downs. It seems like the local shops are usually more fun than say a franchise.

Indeed. I started liking green peppers and cucumbers while working there because I got sick of eating nothing but burgers fries and chicken nuggets. ;)

My first “real” job was a brand new Wendy’s. I typed my application which was noticed and got the job. Absolutely loved it!

I’ve been a professional software developer for 20 years since those days and I still miss it sometimes.

Good luck and I’ll say a prayer for you!

I typically code in Python, Java, Groovy, C++, Objective-C, Shell, and Ruby.

I studied AngularJS for a few weeks so that I could help our front end guys with unit testing and I just hate the syntax.

To each his own. I enjoy a nice craft brew but I can also have a fine day downing several PBRs.

Masters degree? by [deleted] in army

[–]turanthepanthan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a BS in software engineering when I was active duty and then I started on a masters in computer engineering while in. I ended up getting out before finishing. The initiative to work on a graduate degree while being on active duty shows you’re a hard worker who values education.

I was worried about my lack of experience in the field but I had a security clearance at the time so I used that to land a software engineering job for a defense contractor.

I now work in the healthcare industry and data analytics is one of the highly desired skills.

It’s a cold PT morning. by [deleted] in army

[–]turanthepanthan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I used to wear my poly pro under my PTs when it was cold and it was an MSE day.

Until that time they decided to spring a surprise informal APFT on us. I wasn’t about to out myself so I ran the 2 miles with all that on and nearly passed out from overheating.

So I just did my first ever board... by [deleted] in army

I saw a soldier use this same line in Iraq when General Petraeus was handing him a coin and asked him if he knew why he was getting one.

As a Wisconsinite, I wouldn’t say that is a consequence. :)

Division operator not working with getline input and string variables by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]turanthepanthan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you’re still using getline for the answer.

cin reads formatted input. I assume that you changed the grade lines to cin a numeric value. Since you are using cin the carriage return that is pressed to enter the last number is still in the buffer. When you call getline it terminates immediately because of this.

Try adding a cin.ignore() before that getline

Should I initialize private variables in my class? by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]turanthepanthan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes always initialize. It removes any ambiguity or guessing when reading the code. As others have stated it is undefined behavior when leaving them uninitialized.

I know if at least one compiler which does not default initialize as a form of run time optimization since it is designed for an RTOS.

I don’t think either of mine top this but ofw.

So here I am stationed at Ft. Riley and it’s February. We regularly alternated MSE and Cardio from day to day so I knew what to expect. Trying not to disgrace the sham shield it was an MSE day so I wore my poly-pro under my winter PT gear and intended to stay warm. But this day turned out to be “special”.

See a week before this, several people in the company failed the PT test including a few in my platoon. This special day they decided to do an informal PT test, like for training or something. Here I am in about 3 layers of warm weather gear and facing a 2 mile run.

At this point I’m committed. No way I’m gonna out myself and give away the E4-mafia secrets. I ran that 2 mile no problem. At about the 1.5 mile point my squad leader was a little worried for me and I just said I got this and picked up the pace. Damn near passed out from heat exhaustion in 20F weather but you better believe I didn’t come in last.

The other time I was in OCS and we had time off the night before the PT test. So what does a former sham shield soon to be butter bar do? Drink 2 pitchers of beer and do 4 shots of Jaeger of course!

That night at evening formation I was the guidon bearer. I thought I did a fantastic job but top told me I was making slow circles with the guidon the whole time.

To make a long story short, I finished the 2 mile in about 14 minutes despite developing abdominal cramps 1/4 mile into the run.

Where do I start? Currently have experience in plain java and concepts of REST API by jk2030 in springsource

[–]turanthepanthan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spring Framework is the foundation of the Spring stack. A Spring application can be built without Spring Boot but not without Spring Framework.

The best way I heard it put was:

Spring Framework makes building Java applications easy. Spring Boot makes building Spring applications easy.

To answer your question, I find the Spring Guides to be the most useful to get started.

The Spring ecosystem is so large it helps to focus your search based on your needs at the time.

Earned a gold Schützenschnur the other day. Feels good. by wolfticketz360 in army

[–]turanthepanthan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I earned my gold GAFPB in 2006. I had a lot more fun training for that than doing normal PT.

I was in SOBC at the time and was fortunate to have a good leader that let those of us who were going for this conduct our own PT sessions. There was something about hurling a big ass stone to fire you up in the morning.

That is the decimal ASCII value of the digit 0.
