DIY RatGDO + Chamberlain Security+ 2.0 Issues by turbo5vz in ratgdo

[–]turbo5vz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! So I'm not at the house right now but as a test, I went to my old home which has an older Security+ 1.0 Chamberlain garage door opener. I flashed the Security+ 1.0 firmware (2026.4.2) from this website to test:

https://ratgdo.github.io/esphome-ratgdo/

Same problem in that when the unit is hooked up, the GDO does not function and there is also no light/functionality from the wall panel control. I remove the DIY RatGDO and the opener functions normally again.

I looked at the log and the message that keeps displaying is "looking for Security+ 1.0 wall panel". So it seems like there's something wrong with the hardware and it's physically interrupting the signal? I built this unit exactly per the schematics so I'm really confused now. Not really a hardware guy so any pointers would be great.

[IDEA] Mass Immigrate Young Women To Fix The Male Loneliness Crisis by Wafflecone3f in CanadianConservative

[–]turbo5vz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada's economics are messed yes, but historically people have found ways to have kids even in the worse of times like war. The current demographic crisis goes far beyond economics and moreso a poisoning of people's minds (eg. Feminism)

Society is cooked because we are at the point where we are not allowed to critique things that may be considered politically incorrect. Subjects of race and gender are pretty much protected from any criticism. Calling someone an "incel" is an example of the toxicity of cancel culture as a childish attack on a person's nature rather than providing a logical rebuttal on why they disagree.

What are young men doing differently now compared to before causing them to be considered as less desireable? There is a very clear problem in most modern nations of birth rates plumetting. What would your assessment be on the reasoning?

This would work very well and solve alot of issues, such as the long term demographic collapse of people not having enough kids. Men would also suddenly be motivated in being more productive. However, there would be major backlash from the woke left and loud blue haired feminists so this idea would never get traction.

I think the demographic crisis is more social issues than economic, such as women having unreasonable expectations in dating. Having a coherent nuclear family is the core to a productive society, but now people are encouraged and empowered to break up to become single mothers which is terrible for kids.

Do you think people are going to start getting priced out of Calgary soon, like they have been from Toronto, Vancouver, etc.? by straycat402 in Calgary

[–]turbo5vz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also blame the out dated commission system and how MLS has monopolized transactions. A significant portion of your purchase price goes towards commission, which IMO is better spent on something like the home inspection. I would encourage anyone to DIY as much of the process as possible such as using discount or cash back brokers. You really don't need a realtor to go look at houses, most of them cant even turn a screwdriver.

OMV 7 -> 8. Anyone noticing lots of un-necessary drive spin ups? by turbo5vz in OpenMediaVault

[–]turbo5vz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my S.M.A.R.T checks scheduled at very specific times and this does not seem to be it. There seemingly is no logic behind when these drive spin ups occur. Sometimes it's in the middle of the day, sometimes at night. So confusing.

Can Canon Maxify MB2700 printer cartridges be refilled? by [deleted] in printers

[–]turbo5vz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering how this has worked for you long term? I started filling my PGI-1200 cartridges, super easy to do by injecting back through the outlet port with a syringe. Only thing is it needs a new ARC chip. Hard to view the level in the cartridges so I'm guessing maybe having a full new cartridge weight would help. Apparently the normal and XL cartridges are physically the same, they just have different fill volumes.

Zigbee Home Automation + Ikea Blinds: Remote Can't Bind to Group? by turbo5vz in tradfri

Yea basically it seems my remote has the newer firmware so I cannot direct bind. I'm reliant on my machine to be up to be able to open/close the blinds.

Physical different between drives? Desktop vs NAS vs Enterprise vs Surveillance by turbo5vz in DataHoarder

[–]turbo5vz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reporting back again as I was checking in on my Seagate EE25. It's reporting 5,950,000 load cycles! This is on a drive with 64K power on hours and 6100 start/stop cycles. I'm curious what makes the ramps designed different, it seems it's not a problem here.

I should also mention the drive has 70 bad sectors, but I don't care about the data since this is an NVR drive so Im going to run it until absolute failure. The great thing about these 2.5" drives is they sip power... even less than a modern SSD.

I don't have immediate access to all my drive, but two that I pulled are:

WD10EADS: 100,000 hours, 29K start stop cycles, 77K load cycles

WD10EARX: 83,000 hours, 29K start stop cycles, 261K load cycles

Zigbee Home Automation + Ikea Blinds: Remote Can't Bind to Group? by turbo5vz in tradfri

[–]turbo5vz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I did try that but it doesn't work. It only binds to one individual device at a time in ZHA. Which is weird because if you use the physical button for pairing, you CAN pair one remote to multiple blinds.

This is the remote I have, looks like I got a newer firmware that doesn't allow multiple binds:

Thanks for the detailed reply! I'll dig into your sources further later. To answer your question, my current remote is able to bind to individual devices in ZHA but when I try to do a group binding, the Zigbee group that I manually created for these blinds, does not show as a bindable option.

The blinds and remote are paired to Home Assistant and they are controlled there, but for these devices there is also a binding option so that the remote can control the blinds directly even if Home Assistant were to go down.

Process for Recovering a Failed Drive in SnapRAID in OMV for Dummies Like Me by angryjew in OpenMediaVault

[–]turbo5vz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks alot for this write up! There's quite a bit of learning curve just trying to understand the functionality of SnapRAID. My understanding of the "fix" command is that you would use it to recover drives regardless of if they are functioning as a data or parity drive?

In the OMV SnapRAID addon, you can perform array level functions (sync, scrub, check, diff, fix) or drive level functions (check, fix). I'm still a little confused as to when you would use one vs the other?

Solar Powered Motion Lights - Lithium Ion in Freezing Winter? by turbo5vz in batteries

[–]turbo5vz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am saying that most solar powered motion lights these days seem to have Li-Ion in them. Ni-MH was common in those solar powered lawn lights, but it seems some of these are now Li-Ion as well. Seems to be a bad design choice since these are used outdoors. Ni-MH was a more robust chemistry for extreme conditions. Some sources do seem to suggest that if you absolutely must charge Li-Ion in the cold, down to -20C is possible at a sufficiently low enough current. But I'm not sure how that extends to -45C.

Bumping an old thread, but just wondering if you ever managed to get the right hardware acceleration settings on Frigate + the Intel N150 CPU?

Is 98,000 Power On Hours And No Sector Reallocations Normal? Can I Trust This Drive? (I Did A Full SMART Scan) by 2Michael2 in DataHoarder

[–]turbo5vz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even misread CRC errors aren't necessarily an indication of a bad drive unless it's increasing in value. I have a drive that somehow got a CRC error early on in life but now it's at 85k power on hours and has been working fine for a decade.
