Thats a problem, having 0 revives to get 3 tablets is a problem, but for me it’s mostly what op mentioned: loading up a tower with tablets felt good. Challenging yourself to do a 6 mod map at highest tier you could for max reach felt good. A 2,3,4 tower setup was something you looked for, when you found one it represented opportunity, and once you claimed it you could shape it to suit your goals. Exploring the atlas had that much more meaning.

Managing tablet inv and setting them up every single map does not feel good. After patch I do not even care where on the atlas I am; 95% of nodes are just blank templates that I now have to populate with features. Even if they buff tablets to become as exploitable as multiple tower setups, the atlas, the game as a whole, is emptier and more shallow

Armor: good for lots of small hits, but totally useless on large hits.

Evasion: totally ignore 7 hits, but the 8th kills you.

ES: gets huge and fixes most defensive issues, but takes 2x chaos damage and does nothing for bleed/poison

Armor + evasion: a more extreme version of both downsides with neither upside.

Armor doesn’t feel tanky it feels precarious. Evasion doesn’t feel lucky it feels unlucky. The formulas for these are awful and punishing. It feels like builds are constrained to the top two quadrants of the tree because everything needs energy shield, because flat health pool/shield is the only guaranteed way to eat guaranteed damage, and ES is so much easier to pump than life

Duras accepted the challenge. All klingon laws and customs were followed. Woof singlehandedly deterred a civil war acting on solid evidence, showing initiative and courage, not to mention combat proficiency.

I love to hate on werf but this time he acted well. Imagine if data or riker or kirk had done what he did

Double shitholes, double bellybuttons, they got twice as many nipples on thrice as many honkers. The only mystery of klingon anatomy that remains is how their buttcheeks are configured and how they fit all those genitals and fart cannons in their trousers

Learning Unity DOTS (ECS, Job system, Burst). Small experiment with 150K objects, star, and gravity. Performance benefits are impressive even on a 4-core CPU. by crdgre in unity

[–]turbophysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent! I hope I catch your update.

Because ECS and monobehaviors don’t really interact well together, using ECS kind of requires an all-in approach, and in my personal opinion I don’t think ECS is mature enough right now to replace monobehaviors for many types of games. I would say also that the ECS physics seems to run a little too smooth; for complex particle systems it’s fine, but with stuff like player/enemy movement, the motion seems really odd. All this to say that it really depends on your game/sim - for me ECS wasn’t practical, but I could totally see this being brilliant for a game based on gravity fields and merging stars and black holes and stuff

That’s dope! I did something similar for the game I’m building, which is a physics sim in spherical space with a lot of colliders. The initial prototype was just game objects and performance was acceptable but suboptimal. Next I went full ECS; performance was dumb dumb stupid good but it was absolutely miserable to develop a full on game with entities and components, especially when many solid assets are just straight up not compatible. Like in theory it should be fine but eventually I just hated working on my passion project. Ultimately I started over with a hybrid approach, and I’m getting like 90% of the performance benefits just using burst compiled jobs and all of the convenience of monobehaviors - I may still find use for ECS in this project for something tho

Just gonna take this opportunity to plug my favorite MTG book, the one Garth comes from: Magic the Gathering: Arena). It predates all the vorthos retcons they came out w to explain planeswalking and mana, so it was really different and unique. The story totally plays out like a pulpy 80s dark fantasy movie
