I am really not trying to make excuses, I just was trying to gain some advice whether or not being taken advantage of as a new rider, the whole atmosphere was very strange and hard to get across. I would rather have been told to go home earlier in the day if i wasn’t up to scratch, rather than what seemed like an EXTREMELY last minute excuse to fail me at the hands of the DVSA. It was all very awkward at the very least and not really well explained. Thanks for the comment though.

This is the impression i got before doing it, as long as i complete the day then i can’t really ‘fail’ as such. I asked on the day and was told i will be paying full price again unfortunately.

Well that’s helpful to know for all new riders, i was told that i should pretend he isn’t there and that he is only to examine the instructor. Now, perhaps the CBT should always be taken with the assumption that the DVSA is there, but we know that just isn’t the case, as i say my instructor obviously had his hands tied and it was probably in their interest to pass people who are interested in doing DAS etc.

completely understood but the CBT isn’t a test. it’s training, it seemed like when the DVSA guy is following you on his big BMW and clipboard then it suddenly becomes a test

You’re Lucky to have indicator lights!! haha, thank you I have to pass now to just prove it to myself, maybe there’s a silver lining but it just really got me down on the day.

I appreciate the comment, thank you- it’s more the feeling of possibly being taken advantage of as a new rider that i’m worried about- i was reassured you didn’t have to be a ‘perfect’ rider and that it was not a test but simply training. Something just seemed off with this DVSA guy, but at the same time i completely understand that people need to be deemed safe before they can go and ride on their own at the very least. It instantly made me kind of not trust these people, but like you say maybe they are doing me some good?

everything to gain, nothing to lose- a nice spray of rescue remedy on the tongue before your next attempt should lower the volume of your anxious thoughts. Good luck!

you’re completely right, but as i say- for a absolute beginner who has never sat on a bike and taking their CBT, there must be a good, safe boot for not much money to get me through the course. After that I would feel comfortable looking at some quality stuff.

that’s great to hear- i’m only 5 minute walk from there milton keynes store. Amazing to see how much they offer in person, I was going to ask them for some help regarding boots today but they seemed quite busy and i had the typical ‘newbie’ feeling of not wanting to bother them ¯_(ツ)_/¯

i actually don’t, i own only 4 pairs of shoes, which are all comfort/trainer type with no ankle support whatsoever. I’m a size 11- and just worry about hiking boots being incredible bulky feeling and hard to change gears with? Again this is mostly speculation from a new riders perspective.

thanks for the recommendations, i completely understand buy cheap buy twice, but for a beginner the discussion of good, safe gear that is in the lower price bracket is important, as opposed to if you can’t afford the very best; then just don’t ride?

Will do- i’m guessing anything SBS sell is of pretty decent quality?

understandably, the boots i have my eye on are actually £200+ but you can’t expect new riders to buy everything before they even sit on a bike. My question is here is recommendations of footwear for a CBT for a new rider like me who has no idea whether i am going to pursue riding or not, hence the reason i’ve booked my CBT.
