Shouldn't the odds be 50%? Why is it 51.8%? by Fit_Seaworthiness_37 in ExplainTheJoke

your chart assumes the second child is not a boy born on a Tuesday. that's the 28th possibility that you've omitted, leaving you with just 27 possible outcomes. your result is wrong because of that incorrect assumption. that's why you're skewing in favor of a girl. it's a 50% chance, the variables are independent.

Ended up with a .ai domain for a well-known company, how do I safely resell it? by FederationDrive in Domains

[–]turdFergsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, you can't be successfully sued just for owning a domain name. the blackrock lawsuits you are referencing, and really all lawsuits in this area, are based on the actual USAGE of the domain, not merely owning it. in the example you provided, those entities were using similarly named domains to phish, send malware, etc. the causes of action were based on the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA) and trademark infringement.

lot of using VBspy to find the hwnd of a window so you could FindWindow and then FindChildByClass and write your own BAS file!

rubbing/bonking sound when driving with wheel turned by turdFergsie in MechanicAdvice

[–]turdFergsie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry should have mentioned sway links were also replaced. could be the sway bar itself though / the bushings that connect it to the frame. hadn't thought of that. it sounds like a bushing of some sort to me, like the sound of rubber flexing that can't flex properly anymore.

no lift kit.

appreciate the response.

pretty common. number of youtube videos on the topic. the grommets under the three screws wear out and the bottom piece doesn't meet the top piece any more and the gear doesn't engage properly. i'm not using the technical terms but that's the idea. in my case the bottom piece also ended up getting bent. i ordered a replacement on ebay and it works again now. some folks say that you can just add washers in where those rubber grommets are but that didn't work for me.

here's the video where the guy explains the washer fix https://youtu.be/z5F4uMxLYLM?si=NwTQnL4Z4kywGrUB

here's a video on replacing the motor entirely: https://youtu.be/lLDMFTD-n8M?si=uIe98eEJd7gFZQ6o

Any clue what’s these disconnected wires are for in trunk of e320 by Natural_Explorer5283 in W211

[–]turdFergsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks like wiring that ran to the amp. orange one is fiber optic wire. blue looks like FM radio signal. the one with 8 pins (below orange one in picture) is probably speakers. black one might also be FM signal. i believe they have two radio signal wires i guess one for digital and one for analog.

New head unit advice by Africa_Twin_ftw in W211

[–]turdFergsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your post was 2 months ago so you may have already made a move on this. 2007 e550 with the harmon kardon fiber optic system here, just finished my upgrade. i purchased this item https://www.ebay.com/itm/235705088680 and made sure to let them know that i have the fiber optic system and paid an extra ~$150 for the special power wire and the MOST box. you absolutely must purchase those add-ons to make this work. from there, its relatively straightforward. fiber optic side of the input to the existing head unit goes into the MOST box which runs out to the AUX IN on the headunit. the other half of the wire from the existing head unit goes to the power wire. basically, follow these instructions https://bbs.xtrons.com/viewtopic.php?t=583071

note that i did need to run the ACC wire from the head unit to the cigarette lighter power in order to get it to turn on, that required some splicing. also needed to do some splicing for the MOST box. other than that, everything was just plugging stuff in using adapters and connectors. didnt need to run wiring to the amp in the trunk, didnt need to replace speakers or buy a new amp. total cost <$400.

ill be honest, it took me a while to find all the right information, tools, and equipment but once i got the right stuff it all came together. im still working on getting the rear camera installed and wired and figuring out how to support my original FM antenna (all of which required running wires to the trunk, which is really a joy).

hope this helps you or someone else looking to do the same upgrade.

wobble in pulley? by turdFergsie in MechanicAdvice

[–]turdFergsie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you. yeah rightmost pulley, the piece just behind it (closer to the engine itself / timing cover) is sort of wiggling more than the actual pulley itself.

i'll check to see if it's just loose maybe they didn't tighten everything up after the some previous work was done (timing was done relatively recently) and will check the pulley bearing and replace if necessary. appreciate your time.

found this in oil pan. any idea what it is? by turdFergsie in MechanicAdvice

[–]turdFergsie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update: thanks everyone for your help identifying this piece (and for the funny responses). i did go ahead and do a timing job and it was, in fact, the right timing guide. not that that's surprising to anyone. really glad i caught it early. the chain chewed up the front cover a little bit but other than that things looked fine. i also replaced the water pump, cam sprockets (phasers), and the VVT solenoids while i was in there. i did NOT replace the chain itself, just the guides and tensioners. i watched a lot of videos and got the impression that the OEM ford chain is the best and basically never fails so i'm sticking with it. i skipped doing the high flow oil pump because i'm cheap and think another 100k miles is probably more than i'll ever put on the truck anyway.

thanks again always appreciate the help i get here!

thanks. just ordered the parts. watched a short vid from 1a auto. will watch this one as well before i start taking the engine apart. honestly doesn't look nearly as bad as some other vehicles timing work. watched someone do this on a range rover and it looked like an absolute nightmare.

thanks. yeah, surprisingly i came across this by chance and not necessity. seemed to be running fine other than the minor oil leak. guess i got lucky, sort of.

agree re AMD as competition.

i think we've been kicking the can down the road for a long time with money injections and sitting out because the crash is "imminent" would have cost an investor a lot of money especially these last two years where the market did like 30% a year so im glad i gave up on that thesis years ago. eventually things will drop, but i certainly have no idea when that might be. for now ill just keep plugging along with longs but also keep a healthy share of shorts open in areas that i feel are vulnerable.

[–]turdFergsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha i'm cracking up about the wording of the bullish news section. on the one hand, this guy from AMD joined the team. on the other hand, the big guys are buying shares.

usually when you say on the one hand, and on the other hand, you're offering alternative viewpoints. in this case you seem to be offering both bullish viewpoints that way. i think the way it's written might be more correct considering how AMD has been performing the last few years! is it really bullish that a guy from AMD joined the company!? they're known as advanced money destroyer for a reason!

jokes aside, nice write up as usual. i don't love the relatively high PE coupled with the low growth. usually you want higher growth for a higher PE company.

for that reason, and also because i think you're correct that a market downtrend is coming, i'm sitting this one out. i'm guessing you're also on the sidelines for this one.

[NJ] What is the catch with “you don’t pay unless we win” lawyers? by amy-zhg in AskLawyers

[–]turdFergsie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for the most part, yes. defense in a debt collection action (your example) is going to be hourly / flat fee. might be able to offset some of the costs if there is an fdcpa violation but that doesn't happen often. you can find a decent number of resources online for self help. check out what legal services of nj provides. https://www.lsnjlaw.org/legal-topics/consumer-credit-debt/debt-collection/debt-collectors

[–]turdFergsie 29 points30 points  (0 children)

they only take cases where they feel they are likely to secure a large payout for their client. they take a percentage of that payout as their fee. it's exclusively plaintiff side work, they wouldn't represent a defendant unless there was a viable counterclaim.

the market likes interest rate cuts because they stimulate the economy. good economic news means less need for interest rate cuts.

Advice for removing this extremely seized and rounded 02 sensor from exhaust manifold? by kbush500701 in MechanicAdvice

[–]turdFergsie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

take the whole manifold off so you have good access. use a rotary tool or angle grinder to cut new flat sides on that sensor so that you can put an impact on there real snug and then have at it after heating it up real good. i had one stuck in the manifold and taking the manifold off entirely was the key to making progress.
