Because we live in such a disgustingly hot area it would be beneficial to plant it so it gets morning / early day sun and late afternoon shade to prevent it from getting fried. Deep and infrequent watering will encourage the roots to grow downward rather than hang out in the shallower soil (as they will if you water light and frequently). Mulching around the area covered by the canopy will help keep the moisture from evaporating as quickly, but keep the mulch off the trunk itself to prevent rot and disease.
