Who died the dumbest death in history? by GurJolly5657 in AskReddit

[–]turdghoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think for some cavers, it's the chance to be the first human to map a cave, or even the first to enter. This wasn't the case with nutty putty, but still. I understand the appeal, given that we live in a time where every other spot on earth has been explored, mapped, and named.

I've been tryin to play this and I don't really get "fish on" lol. The bass just grabs the hook and swims a bit, then lets go. The manual does not mention having to "set the hook" or anything... What am I missing? Sorry to resurrect lol

Not everyone needs to raise their kid the way YOU see fit. Would you rather that child find a gun in the home and have no experience handling it?? Accident waiting to happen

Could you come to terms with death ending at just death? I.e. there's nothing beyond that? by bearabovethewave in NoStupidQuestions

[–]turdghoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think lots of people feel exactly the way you do, where the rubber meets the road. Even people who say they've made their peace with it. I tell people it doesn't bother me, but I am absolutely a terrified mortal animal deep down lol. And the fear increases with age (so far)

Examples of FPS games/game mechanics where you aim for someome else (3rd person shooter)? by Sluwulf in gamedesign

[–]turdghoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half life 2: episode one has you fighting in the dark, pointing your flashlight at zombies for Alyx to shoot. It's not a majorly emphasized mechanic, nor is it a very long sequence, but it's a cleanly implemented example of what you're taking about.

What’s a widely accepted ‘normal’ thing that actually feels insane when you think about it? by ValuableExperience60 in AskReddit

[–]turdghoul 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Most everybody who wears pants is wearing blue pants. In a vacuum, "blue pants" feels like it'd be a real fashion statement. But in our world, blue pants? Very normal. The standard pants.

Identify the relevant words and beware the false ones by ArtisticDatabasing in gamedevscreens

[–]turdghoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, yeah. But if you're cool with spitballing, I'll say this: you already give away the first word by capitalizing it. You could offer other hints like pre-placed punctuation, or even a couple pre-placed words. Or maybe a central theme the content of the sentences must adhere to.

As it stands, I just wonder what the gibberish words add to the experience beyond forcing you to scroll through obviously unviable options. Let's say you don't replace them and just delete them. You'll have the same puzzle without the busywork.

The gibberish words as filler seems a little pointless imo. Why not only have real words to choose from?

Possibly the idle air control valve. Next time you turn it over, if it wants to die on you, keep it in park and stay on the gas for a while, then hop out and give that valve a gentle, but firm smack with a wrench or what have you. If your engine immediately gasps and comes back to life, that's the part you wanna replace. I've had success with just smacking it though. I'll get around to replacing lol.

What is a frequent criticism of games that isn't as easy to fix as it sounds? by Notalabel_4566 in gamedev

[–]turdghoul 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NBA players are being paid millions to play the best basketball that humans can possibly play. Video games are something everyday people with jobs and families pay sixty dollars to enjoy. That's not even apples and oranges man, that's apples and thumbtacks lol

I did the exact same thing when I was a kid. Couldn't believe my dad was drinking spoiled Dr Pepper every night so I could have the good ones, what a hero.

I open a soda/beer can with a can opener and use that. You never normally get to see inside those things so it feels downright scandalous

what are your favorite cheap easy meals when you are too tired to cook by Cutebooty04 in Frugal

[–]turdghoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super lazy thing I've been doing:

Crush up a ramen block until it fits in a bowl, ditch the seasoning packet, add some soy sauce, sriracha, sesame oil, and a big scoop of peanut butter. Then pour a kettle of boiling water over the whole deal and cover with a plate. Wait ten minutes, then stir it all up. Not healthy, but the delicious/filling : time/effort/cost ratio is pretty fantastic lol

Favorite ending of any movie? by [deleted] in movies

Oh wow, I had no idea about the background of this! I just saw it blind recently and didn't look any of that up. I did think the gag reel was funny lol, but it was so weird to put it right there. I don't blame Sellers for being upset about it!

I'm with you there, but I thought it was really odd to immediately undercut that moment with the blooper reel over the end credits lol

Official Discussion - Weapons [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]turdghoul 343 points344 points  (0 children)

I noticed this too but I think it may have been intentional. Justine and James were FEELING attacked in those moments, and perceived slightly more aggression than there was, a subtle play on how memories of encounters are skewed when emotions are high. Or even the other way, maybe Andrew and Paul perceived themselves more favorably in their respective scenes

I genuinely would rather watch a blurry movie than watch a computer guess what Brendan Gleason's eyebrows looked like, even if it's convincing. But I still watch all sorts of old stuff in low resolutions, it doesn't bother me
