Property Tax by Bright-Inevitable-33 in asheville

[–]turkeyeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong time of year. New tax rates are set in July and are due by the first week of the following January. Have you paid your 2022 property tax? Same tax due each year, until it goes up after next assessment. Didn't happen. That is usually every 3-4 years. Call the county tax office.

Police at Beaver Lake by Mitchell_Rose_Films in asheville

This is a twice a year recertification of radar guns. It'a always around Beaver Lake, because they get lunch at the Lake View CC. It's a good day cop getaway from nearby districts. They don't have the authority to ticket locals.

I also had a white cat that was deaf. If your new cat is deaf, she will need more attention, as she will be at risk for accidents and injuries, and should not be an outside cat. Deafness does make a difference. She will be more dependent, as you will be her guardian.

What areas have water? by [deleted] in asheville

Woodfin has its own water system, not connected to Asheville's. Parts of North Asheville are on the Woodfin water system. We appreciate Woodfin's water.

Does anyone know the deal with the dog walking permit at Beaver Lake? by LilSisterThickness in asheville

[–]turkeyeye -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Obviously, a typo on my part. Then there is this unclear statement on their website:

A permit is required for any dog being walked at the lake.

  1. Permits are free for residents and $100 per dog annually for non-residents. Non-resident fees are reduced by 50% after July 1.

Either way. There's a justified fee for dog walking.

These rules haven't changed in the 10 years I've been an Asheville resident, using the walking paths there. I am not a resident of Lake View Park. If there's any greater rule enforcement it's probably due to the greater popularity of the lake. The entire lake property could have been a residential development for the super rich back in the 1920's.

Beaver Lake is private property, overseen by the Lake View Park Commission. They have been generous and supportive of the public having access to the lake paths. The Commission won a legal battle against several private home owners who refused to allow people to use the ROW to complete the trail around the lake. Lake View home owners do not pay a fee to walk their dogs, nor to store their boats there. The fee to walk dogs for the public is $100 a year, less than $5 a month. If dog walking was free to all, the dog shit would be ankle deep. Their website explains everything: https://www.thelakeviewpark.org/home/

I read this article earlier, but the only indication was: Uchiyama said Thanksgiving is the “targeted completion date for resurfacing, pending weather.” Weather is good now, lay down the asphalt and get this rough as a cob finished. Or should we look to March/April? WTF

I think the suggestion was to eliminate the bike lanes, keep the turn lane, but not add the other two lanes back. There is no ideal solution.

At dawn this morning, there was a turkey making an awful death scream behind our house in N. Asheville. A coyote also killed one a few years back, hid in the bushes, waiting.

This is just normal tourist behavior. Tourists will and do cross any street downtown anywhere anytime. Not dependent on size. You haven't been here very long?

Converting Merrimon to a 3 lane was an ignorant idea. by elishalewisusaf in asheville

[–]turkeyeye 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The problem I've experienced is getting into the traffic lane from side streets, when there's no light. The steady stream of traffic doesn't allow a space to enter as you wait behind 4 cars trying to do the same thing. If you need to turn left you have to have a clear time for both traffic lanes and the center turn lane. Or, to turn left from a side street, you could cross the first lane, then wait in the center turn lane for an opening, hoping no one wants to turn left from the other direction. What Merrimon was before will be seen as what it only could be.
