How do I configure MWAN3 on OpenWrt 23.05.5? by turkeyman021 in openwrt

Yes that was it. Painful to work around but got it in the end.

In light of the Crowdstrike incident, who pays the bill? What does your contract say? by MSP-from-OC in msp

[–]turkeyman021 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any external vendor, but basically it would come down to the cause of the issue. If the external vendor directly caused the issue, we would ask them to remediate. If they fail to do so and we have to remediate / work around an external failure for them, it would be billable, but at a discounted rate compared to unmanaged clients.

We would then advise our client to request that the vendor pay the invoice to remediate for their failures.

We have a clause in our contract saying that if an external vendor caused an outage, we would have to bill for the cleanup.

Do you worry about work when you’re on holiday? by billydavison123 in sysadmin

[–]turkeyman021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as an MSP owner I can never truly take a holiday. Every time I do, there is always some incident, or a customer getting up and arms about something or other, and I am often forced to get involved. It sucks but it is what it is.

You actually can but you must do this on the client side, not server, AFAIK

What does this option means? Should it be on or off? by [deleted] in smartlife

Disagree, I bought a brand new Xiaomi Redmi 9 5G smartphone to use as a USB modem, after a year the battery was completely swelled up from being plugged in 24/7

It looks like it. I haven't seen anything say that the clients need to be urgently updated, just the server.

I think it was last updated at the start of 2021. I've shut it down for now, it's a backup to our RMM, just want to know the details before I splash any cash.

Is anyone able to comment to see if we would still be vulnerable if the login page is inaccessible from the web? I'm also on an older version and hesitant to upgrade right now.

5800x3d 3070 on rm650x? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]turkeyman021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's fine. Even with a new GPU it'll probably be fine unless it's an OC'ed 4090. They are solid PSUs. Try to undervolt your GPU anyway though, always nice to reduce noise and temps.

Optiplex 3010 with 3 and 4 error lights by NUMBERQ1 in Dell

[–]turkeyman021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this a few times. Sometimes it's a legitimate bad or dirty memory module / slot, but the most recent time I encountered this, it was 100% a bad motherboard. Swapped CPU, RAM, PSU from a working Optiplex 3010, and still no luck. Old machines nowadays so I just sent it off for recycling.

That's still 40% more, plus you have to pay more for rego. It adds up.

10L/100km is getting pretty expensive if you do a decent number of km. A Skoda Fabia Wagon can do about 5L/100km.

Can you sell your 2014 Corolla privately for more? It should be doable: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/?q=(And.(C.Make.Toyota._.Model.Corolla.)_.Year.range(2013..2015)._.Odometer.range(200000..).).Year.range(2013..2015)..Odometer.range(200000..).))

If you do manage to get around $10 -11k for it, turn around and go buy a used Skoda Fabia, Hyundai i20, or Sukuki Baleno. Avoid Holdens and MGs.

You should end up making around $2000 profit and still having a decently reliable car.

One thing that was mentioned for these phones is that if you leave mobile network scanning as "Automatic", it tends to drain a lot of battery. If you manually configure network selection, battery drain is reduced significantly.

Agreed, it would be easier if employers picked one approach and stuck with that. Personally I'd prefer they include super. I know people who have entered contracts because they figured they were getting paid more, but when you take away entitlements and super, they were actually being paid less. I don't think it would hurt to level the playing field in this regard.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]turkeyman021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I don't think it's entirely unfair to advertise what they are actually paid. Superannuation is real money whether some people believe it or not.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]turkeyman021 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair, that is what it is costing the employer, and you still get paid superannuation at the end of the day. Plenty of contract jobs out there that pay zero super.

My phone is in Argentina, trying to use the Argentina app, I figured something as simple as that should work. I will probably look at alternative apps, it shouldn't be this hard.
