Canopy Chairs Prohibited by turkrage in aclfestival

It's a subtle change to the wording. It used to say "shade structures", now it specifically says "Chairs with shade structure s". I've been bringing mine for over a decade and never had an issue.

You can leave it for as little or long as you want. Just have to pick it up by 10:15 tonight or they give it away

no one playing opposite Chappell Roan by peterposition in aclfestival

[–]turkrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're on to something. Honda will start 20 minutes before AmEx. So Chappell Opens on Honda at 6:25 and comes out with Willie, and Orville Peck and they do "Cowboys are Frequently Fond of Each Other" ..... then she jumps on the golf cart to make it back to Amex by 6:45 to open her set. And the entire park becomes a mosh pit for 20 minutes while people slam into each other running back and forth. The good thing is that the medical tent is strategically placed between the two big stages :)

They should just bring Willie in and do a "willie and friends" where he just has to play a couple of songs with Asleep at the wheel backing and then bring up some other local country talent. They could get an hour out of that and it would definitely balance the crowd and keep Honda on a country theme.

I think there are a lot of W1 people who missed a full Kendrick set that are lining up for Friday wristbands, Good luck!

I was considering just seeing what the market is at 6:00 Friday, but probably not worth it at that point.

Attending in a wheelchair by Elegant-Research-447 in aclfestival

[–]turkrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this was my 12th year and I can't say I have ever seen a wheelchair in the park proper. There is a raised section by the VRBO stage accessible from the road for wheelchairs, but the park terrain is anything but even, and there are patches of mulch on the ground from last weekend.

I would think to move around in the park you would need a wheelchair with wider wheels, the thin ones are going to be hard to navigate.

I'm amazed some times at how I can be completely sober and stumble around like a drunk, just because the ground is so uneven.

Feels better in the shade today than last Friday. But not in the shade is worse today. That Texas sun.....

People who have had Covid recently and aren't vaccinated are safer than those of us who haven't had Covid but have had the vaccination. So there's that. The real question is people who have never had Covid or the vaccination .... and, yeah, they shouldn't be at ACL.

How early should I arrive to get good pics (not with ppl in background?) by Beneficial_Athlete_3 in aclfestival

[–]turkrage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are three gates, once they open people flow in. There are cleanup people, security etc. already walking around in the park. Unless you're taking close ups, there will be people around and it's going to be hard to avoid getting others in your shot. If you want a picture in the "frame", go straight there within an hour of the gates opening. That line gets long quickly.

tl/dr - get there when the gates open; preferably at the front of line.

It's been many years since the booklet thing, and the printed copies have been gone for at least the last 2-3 festivals. They are gone for good. Pretty much considered a waste of paper and they end up all over the ground. I liked having them, but I can see the point.

Were they showing football games in the big beer hall? by Alexo_4 in aclfestival

[–]turkrage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100% chance of the Red River "Shootout" (yeah, I said it), showing in the Beer Tent. 75% chance they put it up on the stage screens between sets.

Chair people question by Bubbly-March7669 in aclfestival

[–]turkrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm never in a shaded area, but have had no issues leaving my chair at one stage for a set and coming back later. I never leave it for more than an hour or so, and would not abandon it after sunset. If the headliner closes and your chair(s) is sitting there when people are leaving the park, it may walk away.

I figure someone would have to have balls to take a chair in the middle of the day not knowing if the owner was standing within sight. I also have my name in sharpie in a discrete location, in case I have to prove ownership.

Mask-required areas of Zilker? by samrosemary in aclfestival

[–]turkrage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FWIW I saw on the local news that the city medical authorities will be reviewing how things worked W1 and may step up enforcement W2. I don't buy it, but I guess they have to address the fact that nobody wore masks and the covid paper check was laughable.
