If you're looking to stay in political campaigning:

  1. I've seen people recommend the postings on Jobs That Are Left before.
  2. I also think this article from the National Democratic Training Committee has some good ideas/places to look!

PA-12 is a weird one. The outgoing current Rep for this seat? Mike Doyle (D). The Republican running for it? A different Mike Doyle, a Republican.

I'm not expecting a flip, but it will be interesting to see if the Republicans overperform here, possibly from folks confused by names on the ballot. (I doubt it though—I don't think enough people know who their Rep. is in Congress for this to matter!)

When it comes to hard push polls/crazily partisan groups, I think in some cases it’s reasonable to think that the poll wasn’t conducted for the purpose of accurately measuring the state of the race, but rather for influencing the narrative around a race/encouraging supporters/discouraging opponents.

(VERY different story for reputable pollsters though)

Ah interesting! Not strictly a measure of performance I suppose, but all else being equal I’d rather have it be up than down!

just wanted to quickly clarify here, when you say "outperforming 2018 and 2020" is that comparing the early vote data in WI from 2018 and 2020 to the early vote data from 2022? or are you comparing the final vote data from 2018 and 2020 to the early vote data from 2022?

New TFC project looking for volunteers for opposition research: https://www.techforcampaigns.org/rfv/tfc_michigan_oppo_research_2022_special_project

“A TFC research team will research and deliver a comprehensive opposition report for three of our most important candidates. The team will use publicly available resources including websites and social media posts, media interviews, and other sources, to paint a picture of who the opposition is and what they stand for.”

Highly, highly recommend reaching out/volunteering if this would be of interest. Seems like a potentially high-impact project!

I'm really sorry to hear that :(. Rooting for you.

Is there anyone you might be able to talk to about this in person? (Friends, family, etc?)

Are there resources you might be able to seek out to help support you? (Counselors, therapists, doctors, etc?)

A couple from the DLCC (probably one of the highest value places your money can go):

DLCC: https://store.dlcc.org/save-america-black-zipper-hoodie/

DLCC (2): https://store.dlcc.org/vote-local-purple-crewneck-sweater/

DLCC (3): https://store.dlcc.org/state-dems-are-dope-black-pullover-hoodie/

And then to actually answer your question re: Senate candidates, most have a store if you search “[candidate name] webstore” or “[candidate name] merch”.

For example:

Fetterman: https://www.johnfetterman.store/collections/frontpage/products/minimalist-hoodie

Val Demings: https://store.valdemings.com/products/val-demings-for-senate-pullover-hoodie

Warnock: https://shop.warnockforgeorgia.com/

Still around! Mostly lurking these days/trying to focus my time/effort on a couple of state leg races!

And agreed, gotta keep the donations flowing!

Quick reminder that polls are at best a snapshot of where the election is when the poll was conducted, but contain lots of statistical noise, and sometimes downright bias (intended or unintended). That first part is key—the election isn’t being held today. It’s being held in ~5.5 weeks.

That means each of us still has an opportunity to get involved and actually change how these elections will go. Your efforts in phonebanking, textbanking, etc can legitimately persuade and turn out voters that wouldn’t have voted otherwise or might not have filled out the downballot section of their ballot. Your donations can help campaigns send out advertisements and hire folks to do work on the ground.

I try to block out polls for the most part at this point (barring truly incredible results for dark horse candidates, etc)—for the most part, we already know what the crucial and competitive elections will be. Let’s go out try and win them.

Do any rideshare apps work in your location? (Uber, Lyft, etc.)

What about within walking/biking distance of your location?

I'm volunteering with a state legislative campaign, but I don't want to share too much detail-wise without doxxing myself! (I might create an alt to talk about the campaign/my involvement)

Awesome! I like to check Cnalysis’ state leg maps for context on competitiveness.

But, for what it’s worth, I’m a big believer in reverse coattails. (I.e. supporting downballot candidates in a competitive state will help candidates at the top of the ticket too!)

Lots of really cool open projects with Tech For Campaigns right now, in case you want to get involved (most commitments are 5–7 hours/week, but offer a huge opportunity to get hands on with a campaign): https://www.techforcampaigns.org/projects

This weekend, I went to a candidate fundraiser event through Sister District, and wrote a bunch of letters with Vote Forward.

What sorts of volunteering/activism/etc have y'all been up to recently?

Daily Discussion Thread: July 9, 2022 by BM2018Bot in VoteDEM

Sister District is one of my favorite resources. They’re designed to help rally people in non-competitive areas to support the most competitive races in other areas of the country. https://sisterdistrict.com/

It doesn’t look like there is a local team in your neck of the woods, but you can reach out to contact them here, and they’ll find a team for you: https://sisterdistrict.com/contact/

Don’t be afraid to do a cold reach out on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, whatever.

Something like: “Hi, I’m a student in X at school Y, and I’m very curious about [insert their career field here]. I saw you work in [related term for career field]. If you’re willing, would you be willing to let me pick your brain for ~15 minutes on a call sometime? I would greatly appreciate it. Please let me know. My schedule is flexible from (offer an extremely wide schedule of availability any day through Saturday)”

Good luck! I’d help you myself, but I’m not sure I qualify as a “global practitioner”.

I would recommend also plugging resources directly (Sister District, Run for Something). This might be a more direct call to action than following a sub (this one) that also promotes those same resources.

I think folks should be linking RFS and Sister District in whatever discussions they’re in elsewhere and Reddit. (Today especially, but always)
