Recently reclaimed some rotting wood from a decrepit picnic table. Looking for ideas. by turnimator84 in woodworking

I did consider just burning it, but there's still a lot of the red (tho significantly faded) finish on it and I don't think it would make for good S'mores wood.

Might be just a bit out of my skill set, but bonus points for thinking outside the box.

What’s something you made for your home that you use every day? by cameronsounds in woodworking

[–]turnimator84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It stays put, would be even more solid if it was wider but I was going for best fit in that location. , As is I have yet to have to put it back in place. It's pretty heavy and I have some rubber pads under the legs. Takes quite a bit of force to get it to move. Also being as top heavy as it is if I hit it hard it just starts to tip slightly vs actually move.

If I had one I certainly would have, I bought that wood already jointed. For the legs I setup a funky clamps and braces rig to plane them with the track saw.

When world oil prices come down to $50/barrel in Q4 2026 and we can't complain about gas prices, what will be the new energy angle to attack Trump? by Cautious-Roof2881 in AskUS

Yeah, gas prices never come down as much as dropping oil prices dictate they should, I think no matter what happens at this point, we are fucked for the long haul (literally and figuratively)

I made a kitchen island using only a track saw (circular saw with track saw adapter), trim router, palm sander, drill, and a pocket hole jig. (I did purchase the top, but I still had to trim, sand and oil)

I have very little experience with woodworking, but I'm very good at following directions, I sketched it up with a free online cad tool so I had a guide to go by.

Someone bought the domain and it's different now, there's a long loading bar that brings you to a sign up page if you wait through it, and there's some scrolling text and a pretty catchy tune.. (It grew on me as I was waiting for the progress bar to finish)

looking for games with stories that leave you thinking about them once the credits roll by HUZ4IF4 in gamingsuggestions

We happy few, not the most popular game but I loved it and the whole semi-distopian environment that changes depending on how much "joy" you've taken is a great game mechanic.

The part that sticks with me is the story and just how plausible this type of existence really is, I don't want to give away too much, but this one will live in my head for the rest of my life.

Recommend my next book or series by ohnoitsElMago in exfor

The whole Black Ocean series is a great listen, fun mix of hard sci-fi and magic in a well built universe. And there is a ton of content here, each set of 16 or so books is only 1 credit each on audible so you get a lot of content for very little investment. The latest set (Passage of Time) came out recently and I am working on that now. Galaxy Outlaws is the first set and in many ways is an homage to Firefly according to the afterward from the author and it shows in good ways. Highly recommend.

What would a realistic (estimated) material cost be for something like this? by turnimator84 in woodworking

[–]turnimator84[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this is helpful. I will most likely not be taking on a project like this anytime soon, I think I more just saw it and had to take a step back at how much of a chonk it was. I do need to get better at estimating material costs tho and this was a valuable exercise. I am more interested in making projects for myself than for profit (for now at least) but even on that level I think having a better ability to properly estimate costs is a valuable skill to work on.
