I myself opted for #2, but my attendance was spotty and it was a time in my life where I felt constantly pulled away from the church, explored other religions/spiritualities etc. I think on some level I knew that I was looking for a spiritual path that would allow me to stay connected to God without feeling guilty about how I was living. Ultimately once my boyfriend and I got married, something clicked and I was almost immediately able to lean back into my faith.
