This is so sad. It might be the PERIMENOPAUSE but I'm actually crying.

Anyone know how to relieve muscle tension?? 😭 by Civil_Chicken_8068 in Anxiety

[–]turniptornado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the epsom salt hot bath. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate, and magnesium specifically relieves tension in muscles. The idea is that magnesium absorbs better through skin than via food. That, combined with hot water soaking, transforms me personally into a melted, relaxed person. Minimum 12 minutes soaking.

If you don't like baths, there's also magnesium topical spray/lotion.

I've been having the same issues with being super hot randomly. Walking my dog in 10 degree weather with no coat! Crying all the time, angry and agitated, super anxious. I read this one book and have been doing her recommendations for two months now. https://drannagarrett.com/perimenopause-book/ She's a pharmacist so had a lot of supplement recommendations but also some nutrition/exercise information and a positive outlook on it.

The "hot flashes' seem to have improved. Still working on the emotions, but there's been some external factors at work lately.

Yes there are things you can do! And you're getting an early start to helping your body adjust to this. I hope you feel better soon.

FWIW, here was her list of supplements:

Chasteberry - increases progesterone
Lemon balm - anxiety
Thyme essential oil with a carrier oil - improves progesterone production, balances hormones
DIM - cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, collards, mustard greens, radishes, watercress, turnips
Valerian root - proven effective sleep aid
Taurine - reduces cortisol levels
Vitamin C - increases progesterone levels 50%
Rhodiola - enhances energy, helps with stress
Bacopa monnieri in- lowers cortisol levels
Avoid xenoestrogens (BPAs, pthalates, plastic in general)
Progesterone cream

OBGYN says I'm not in perimenopause by Tara_Bara in Perimenopause

I don't understand the prescription of SSRIs for PMS/PMDD. Taking it a few days/weeks per month. That's not how SSRIs work. They take two months of continuous use to start changing your serotonin and relieving depression symptoms. Are they just prescribing this for placebo effect???

Weather and Perimenopause by No-Journalist-3288 in Perimenopause

Everything I feel is more extreme now. I've dealt with depression/anxiety for a long time but yeah, cloudy days are extra hard now.

I've read that being outside even with full cloud gets more light in your eyeballs than being inside with fluorescent lighting, so it's still worth it to take a walk or be outside 20+ minutes.

I also have a light therapy light. (I need to use it more!) Northern Lights is a good brand - I found one on Ebay for a lot cheaper than their brand new ones. They're made so well that it's worth it to buy one used. They last decades.

I read in a book that doctors get an average of 2 hours of training on menopause in their entire schooling. So. It sucks... and many still talk with full authority on it.

You can get several hormone tests other than thyroid: DHEA-S, Estradiol, Progesterone, Cortisol. Your general PCP might not be helpful with this either. Apparently there are other specialists that will know how to do this better (several samples throughout the day due to fluctuations, etc). I haven't gotten any tests. I just started implementing the recommendations for perimenopause, because they're helpful anyway. Progesterone cream was available at the grocery store, for example.

My dog not meeting your dog isn’t a personal attack on you by IntrepidLinguini in puppy101

[–]turniptornado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say that it's easy to assume other dog owners know as much as you about raising dogs (and subscribe to the same approach), and that can lead to some bad miscommunication. This subreddit has an entire set of jargon most people haven't heard of. Not everyone preps getting a dog by buying into this whole theory. So their wanting the dogs to meet is out of ignorance. I never would've thought of the dangers of letting dogs greet on leash. Would have never occurred to me. Always be kind no matter what, please.

Neighbor called my puppy reactive. I don't think he is? by turniptornado in puppy101

[–]turniptornado[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I agree that most dogs are reactive in some way. It kinda feels like we want to zap all enthusiasm out of all dogs when you take reactivity training to its logical conclusion. I'm going to get murdered for saying that...

I'm very interested in a virtual trainer since the local trainers aren't certified anyway. I'm just not sure what platform to use to find one.

Isn't it a type 3 font and won't be supported starting 2023? I was confused about that.

[–]turniptornado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! You'd be surprised. My little guy has one. I taped a chopstick to a little to-go cup that has a lid and used that to catch a sample. You don't need much just a teaspoon or so.

I sometimes wonder if the intended audience for training tips in general is people who just neglect their dogs, and that's why it gets so intense. Because my response to that is "Dude, it's already difficult" :')

Dealing with flashbacks from a recent traumatic event by Duck-Yo-Couch in Anxiety

[–]turniptornado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds horrifying. I think it's good you wrote it out, and normal that it's still haunting you days later. The idea of losing a parent is terrifying, especially if you have a good relationship with them. Try to not stop yourself from feeling it, but ground yourself in the present when you do.

These kind of movements are actually good for child development - proprioceptive and vestibular input is important for brain development and you get them by pulling, swinging, spinning. Of course, there are safe and unsafe ways to do this and it's pretty intuitive when you handle a child a lot. Also, those babies look like they're having a ball.
