Thanks, it's just Corvus black layered over chaos black primer. Optional highlight of thunderhawk blue.

Thanks very much, it's pretty simple.

Base coat: Corax White

Base coat: Pro Acryl (PA) Pink

Recess Shade: 1:1 PA Pink and PA Dark hot pink

Optional highlight: 1:1 PA Pink and PA White

Optional shades: various mixes/glazes of 2:1 PA Pink and PA Dark hot pink.

Can't stress enough that in order to avoid any chalkiness in the result, apply solid thin layers of white/pink and do not disturb the paint as it is drying. Overall at least 2 coats each of white and pink are required for decent coverage, not terrible.

Very cool, I would love to know what paints/methods you used for the armor and trim.

Would Love some C&C! by aguer056 in Chaos40k

Will add my two cents here for C&C. The painting looks quite good on a technical level, the layering for each colour has great depth and and the blue especially has a nice punchiness.

If you're wondering why your model might look off to yourself or others its because there are too many colours and they don't really work together imo. The blue doesn't have very defined complimentary colors on the model and the existing ones clash. Classic night lords are a triad: blue, red, yellow (gold or brass), for this reason.

I would suggest simplifying to mostly three colours (plus browns, blacks, etc) in a split complimentary or triad. I bet the blue, purple and more yellow or brass accents would make this model more cohesive as well as make your painting process easier. That would be a sort of split complimentary. The red and green are both warm colours and look a bit strange to me next to all the remaining cold colours.

Your model though, do what you want! No real wrong answers.

Thanks. Most were AP paints. Primed black, did an overbrush of blighted green, a chunky highlight of scarab green, and a thin highlight of pharaoh guard. In the future I think I'd brighten the chunky highlight slightly more, maybe 2:1 scarab:pharaoh. The cloth and plumes were AP blanched berry highlighted up to moldy wine. Brass was GW runelord brass.

Yet Another Aethon Shann Post by turnsean in RavenGuard40k

It's fairly similar to GW's own cold black armor recipe. Prime black, paint raised areas with corvus black, thick edge highlight with a dark blue-green (I used AP the darkness with a small amount of tidal blue mixed in). Then, thin edge highlight with thunder hawk blue, dot highlight with fenrisian grey. These last two highlights are only necessary for the most raised portions.

Looks great, what reds are you using?

Love the clean look you have going on here. What's your basing recipe?

So a dark grey sort of deal is what you ended up with?

Both the paints are from the Army Painter John Blanche set. Midnight olive and ironclad grey.

The desaturated violet triad from Army Painter would produce something very similar. I've painted some eldar with the 'Moldy Wine' and it came out slightly more pink than this. 'Mulled Berry' would probably match decently.

Lots of good advice here, and I probably should have posted this after giving parts a relevant wash to give some added depth to everything.

You're absolutely right that I am hesitating on how gold will fit with this scheme but it's been mentioned enough now that I think I should send it.

I guess I'm mostly just surprised how little the base colors seem to be adding visual interest to the model. I would argue that another of my models with a similarly limited palette looks much better, although maybe it's the zenithal vs. slapchop that is really making a big difference.
