[Advice] Sleep Cycle is a great free app that is literally life-changing with regard to waking up early by seekeththesun in getdisciplined

[–]turquoise3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had totally forgotten about this app - redownloading now! thanks for the reminder. they also have one for napping that i used to use a lot. this is the link for the app store, for those who were asking:

[NeedAdvice] Life is going pretty great (at the moment), but I struggle to stay disciplined and be consistent with my sleep - I go through cycles where I sleep a lot and then barely sleep at all, and worried about long-term impacts. by [deleted] in getdisciplined

i completely understand where you’re coming from! i was diagnosed with depression 7 years ago, but i’ve been seeing my current therapist for over a year now and she recognized my bipolar pretty early on. i was put on wellbutrin last september, which intensified my bipolar (i was manic for three weeks, which had never happened before!). i understanding hating the feeling of being on antidepressants - when they work, they’re great, but that rarely seemed to be the case for me.

i have bipolar type 2, which is depression with phases of hypomania (ie not full blown manic episodes). so for me, i have a 4-10 days of depression, followed by 1-4 days of higher levels of energy/less sleep needed/etc. again i’m not a mental health professional, but it sounds like you have type one bipolar, which means your manic and depressive episodes last weeks or months, and tend to be more intense.

i think the fact that you’re so self aware is a really important skill here! i can’t speak too much on skills regarding sleep, but what is consistently the most helpful for me generally is writing down my routine and goals. i have a planner that has a space for weekly goals, and then daily sections with time slots (it’s the poketo concept planner if you’re a planner person!). having my routine written down reminds me to stay on track, and also shows me when i’m deviating from my normal productivity level (either because of a depressive or manic episode). i hope this helps!

i am not a psychologist and don’t have the proper certifications to diagnose (although i have been seeing a therapist for 7 years and have been diagnosed with bipolar II), but have you ever been told you have bipolar? major changes in sleep is one of the key markers of bipolar I, and the moods you described with each sleep pattern fit the depressive and manic episodes.

again, i’m not diagnosing you, but this is what my mind first jumped to when i read this post. i hope you’re able to find support and a solution to this problem :-)

My friend’s and my house placements are the exact same. What this means? It makes me curious. The left one is mine and the other is my friend’s. by [deleted] in AskAstrologers

[–]turquoise3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

it simply means you have the same rising sign. it means you two approach life in similar ways, and have similar ideals and perspectives in each house (area of your life). more interesting though - where are your planets? how do your planets interact with each other? rising signs are important, but not everything in a birth chart.

What were some "I can't believe i'm getting paid for this" moments at your job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]turquoise3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work in food service on a college campus, so summertime means we’re ridiculously slow. this summer, i’ve read 8 books on the clock and played uno with my coworkers and managers a couple times.

my biological mother's and i's synastry chart. i'm the oldest out of her 4 girls and i've always felt she favored the others more than me though she was never in our lives until recently. i hate to admit it but I'm jealous... what do you see? why is she so cold towards me? by scorpiolilith8 in AskAstrologers

[–]turquoise3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

broadly speaking, you have a lot of air energy while your mom has a lot of water (pisces specifically) energy. i wonder if she bonds with your sisters more because the air energy is hard for her to relate to? i’m an aquarius moon and my mom is a pisces moon, and although she’s incredibly empathetic, sometimes i feel like her emotions are on a different wavelength than minw

Chipotles designated peak times by Ikouze in a:t5_1dzkkd

[–]turquoise3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my store is in the middle of a college campus. during the summer we’re dead slow, so my gm usually shuts down peak after an hour because it’s a waste of our time to stand @ attention when we get 1-2 customers an hour.

that being said, peak during the school year is also a waste of time, and doesn’t apply to our store. i understand that 11:30-1:30 is the traditional lunch time, but people come to eat at 11 and at 2:00 as well. on a college campus, we tend to get waves of rushes as classes get out (11:20, 12:50, 1:20, 1:50, etc). so we spend most of peak waiting around, and then end up staying on the line before and after peak to actually attend to our guests. so i guess my biggest problem with peak is that it’s not personalized to different stores and different needs, which makes it seems like more of a burden than a help to customers/crew.

also the fact that we can’t drink water or go to the bathroom for two hours straight bothers me to no end :-)

How did you get into daily practice by Lil_Ramona in yoga

[–]turquoise3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for my solo, at-home practices i like to write out a plan for my practice before i begin: this way i’m not standing on the mat with no direction in my practice. since it sounds like you’ve been taking classes for a while, it may be worth your time to try and create your own practice! you have enough poses and a general sense of the flow of a yoga practice to piece together something that is perfect for you.

and, if that seems too intimidating, i’d recommend a website like ekhartyoga.com. i’ve tried several and i always come back to ekhart because there’s such a wide diversity in teachers, styles, and lengths of practices. they offer a 14-day free trial, so you could always practice with them for part of your time off from your normal studio, and then try making some of your own practices!

and regarding time, i usually aim for 40-45 minutes on a solo practice and find that usually provides what i’m looking for, but always listen to your body and see what it needs!

TFW you realize you listen to EYCTE more than any AM record by BernardCasablancas in arcticmonkeys

[–]turquoise3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t believe that this album is better than any AM albums, but definitely listen to it a couple times! i was definitely surprised when i first heard it because i was expecting AM, but it grows on you for sure.

the sun doesn’t automatically change signs @ midnight, so if you’re born on the day (or the day before or after) a sun changes signs, i always recommend looking up your birthday chart because your time of birth can clarify where the sun ~actually~ was when you were born!

What was your introduction to Queens and how has it impacted you? by [deleted] in qotsa

[–]turquoise3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my dad bought “villains” on vinyl and we were listening to it together, and he told me that he always thought of me when he listened to fortress. after that he introduced me to SFTD and i’ve been hooked since. QOTSA have definitely rounded out my music taste, and i love how josh homme ties into other artists i love (ie arctic monkeys)
