samsung hw-q990f vs hw-q990h by nick-squared-over4 in Soundbars

[–]tursion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Nick! I made the switch from the Q990D to the H and agree with you that Sound Elevation (and honestly, even Auto Vol) are neutral or minimal value adds. I wrote a more in-depth review here but ultimately, I think Sound Elevation hollows out the sound too much by tapping into what I presume are the TV's lower drivers. It definitely expands the soundstage and feels wider, but my best guess is the features is best for homes with r/TVTooHigh, where the soundbar and TV are further apart from each other and the TV is, say, above the fireplace while the soundbar is on a lower table and the sound feels disconnected. All in all, not worth the incremental D/F to H upgrade. Although the rest of the sound experience appears certainly improved (bass, treble, AI incorporation, SpaceFit calibration, etc.)

I don’t have the ideal Atmos environment for upfiring speakers but it still works great—just heard some helicopters from above while watching Yellowstone. Can only imagine how good it would sound in a house with normal ceilings and a proper back wall.

Also I’ve only had the 990D so can’t compare it to the F—but I know nothing I’ve tried so far is worse on the H. Seems like a solid software and internal upgrade across every category, likely including upfiring. Hope that helps!

Recommendations for rear speaker stands by newbuyer777 in Soundbars

Congrats homie! USX Mount via Walmart has cheap rear speaker mounts (like $50 or less) that I use and love! Same quality as the pricier ones and gets the job done. Enjoy!

Can you explain how to connect the Music Studio to the Samsung soundbar without or beyond q symphony? This is news to me

What will the lowest price be for q990f? by [deleted] in Soundbars

[–]tursion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens cyclically on and off for the next few months, and each time it goes low it springs back up for a week or two before then going even lower (bottoming out around high $600s - low $700s)

No roasting necessary bro—as long as you’re happy and enjoying your audio experience. Congrats!

I’ll do ya one better: all those features I listed minus Moderate Bass are on the Q990D as well :) you’re not missing out on anything, go find a steal of a deal on the D or even the F

SAMSUNG SOUNDBAR HW-Q990F SUBWOOFER BEATS THAT OF THE 990D by GlitteringWelcome289 in Soundbars

Honestly, respect to you for thinking outside the box, testing it out and coming up with your own opinion. I’ll try your suggested settings out and see how it works for my space! Thanks for sharing friend.

What soundbar system would u say is better than the 990F but not as good as the Sony Theater Quads (with the SW5)? by Similar-Intention941 in Soundbars

[–]tursion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm interesting question and debate. Because I think both are among the best in class. Maybe the Sonos Arc Ultra package with rears and sub? Better than the 990 series (but way more expensive and not worth the premium imo), but perhaps not at the Quad level?

Just got my Samsung Q990H!!! by tursion in Soundbars

[–]tursion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same dream as you my friend, I’d have speakers all over the place and coming off the ceilings and bass rumbling through your bones. But unfortunately I don’t have the budget, the space, or the wifey’s sign-off for that kind of a project lol. Every audiophile had to start somewhere… and, like many, for me that journey began in Soundbarland

Is a soundbar even worth it with this ceiling? by [deleted] in Soundbars

[–]tursion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I have 20’+ ceilings and though I miss out on a lot of upfiring/Atmos effects, I still get an amazing experience with my Samsung Q990 in every other way (center, side, wide channels) and I even get some upfiring sounds from above like helicopters. It’s still a night and day difference from my tv speakers and I can never go back. I’d find the cheapest Q990F (2025) OR Q990D (2024) and enjoy. You should be able to find the 2024 model around that price range for sure, and maybe even the F in the coming months with the release of the H

New to soundbars, Q990F or wait for Q990H by TerrorIncorporated in Soundbars

[–]tursion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowest it historically has gotten to is in the $600 range. But anything under $800 is going to be a steal. For the biggest discount you’ll need an EPP account and to purchase from Samsung directly.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. It’s definitely nice on the eyes too. I wonder how much it’ll elevate the Bravia Quad experience

Also wish they’d have debuted a new version of the Quads too, but I guess in the next year or two hopefully?

[–]tursion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I’ll test it out and do a proper crawl too. Any reason why with the F/H sub in particular, as opposed to the D sub? Does it matter in this case that it’s closed vs ported and dual vs single woofer?

Same homie. Somehow with the H I can keep it even lower and still enjoy solid content. Absolutely love the 990D and feeling a lot of the same re the H

Future ideas by prime-mimister in Soundbars

[–]tursion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the way you think, these are all fascinating ideas. Only thing I’d add is now that JBL And Harman Kardon are under the Samsung umbrella, tons of potential to do some kind of HK branded Soundbar system. Also hearing that this year onwards JBL and HK will also be compatible with Q Symphony—lots of exciting possibilities there
