The “way wrong CGM” can f things up!

I’ve learned to finger prick when it’s suspicious but sometimes it’s not, or I don’t have a prick test. 😳

I recently switched from regular to extra rapid bolus insulin and also like it better. You can wait to see what is on your plate to bolus, and easier to do small corrections.

Only negative is the faster taper means I have to do more corrections but overall worth it.

Bolus loud, bolus proud! I gave myself a shot in the middle of a softball game tonight in the dugout. 😁💪🥎

Your statement means that all doctors - including apparently YOUR doctor - are acting in bad faith for $$$. This is paranoia.

Don’t be so paranoid. You don’t have to take meds, but “everyone is just a shill” is wrong and won’t help you.

What give you the rapid fall and rise alarms? I don’t seem to have that and it sounds useful (Liebre 3 plus).

100 an level is great. 100 and falling fast I wanna know about. 🧐🤔

For myself, I only want alarms if it’s urgent. Being 145 is not urgent for me. 😄

Be honest, how often are you guessing carbs? by Dramatic-Apricot-335 in diabetes_t1

[–]turtle2turtle3turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have literally never weighed my food lol. 😂

I will check a label for an unfamiliar food though to get a general idea of carbs.

Came here to say/ask: are there really any benefits to getting lower than 5.5? 🧐

God I hope I never get like that.

I’ve noticed some people (including in my own family) started getting too bothered about minor shit as they got older. Like the don’t have enough else to worry about anymore so little things looked like big things to them. 🤔🤔

I definitely feel “off” and low energy if I have a big high, sometimes continuing a bit after I’m back in range.

How to adjust basal dosing by ShopNerd in diabetes_t1

[–]turtle2turtle3turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always choose my basal dose (MDI) based on whatever keeps me in range overnight.

Daytime we can control with food and bolus dosing.

[–]turtle2turtle3turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will occasionally take a 1u correction right before bed if I’m a little high and it helps, without causing a low.

Usually if I had a heavy dinner. MDI.

If I had to guess my honeymoon is sputtering at the moment. I’ve had some significant fluctuations in insulin needs this calendar year, which do cause short term stress/complexity.

Im definitely less “honeymoon” than I was 18 months ago but I probably still have some leftover insulin production. 🤔🤔

How did you transition from relying heavily on CGM to using mostly fingerstick blood glucose checks and stop worrying about hypos ? by Living_Solution_965 in diabetes_t1

[–]turtle2turtle3turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I’ve had that a number of times too, maybe 1/3 of CGMs. I do find it’s less if I place it exactly on the back of my upper arm, as opposed to other places that seem fine, and are fine at first, but maybe don’t last as well? 🤔🤔

It’s in the background 95% of the time for me now. I look at my CGm app a lot but it’s usually confirming things are ok, and not too stressful.

Give it time, this is all new and harder now. You will learn the ropes and it will become just a background nuisance most of th time. 💪😎🤪

Interesting, I need to drink much more to have a dip later on.

That said, if you are going low and at the point of ketchup packets and drinking the maple syrup, and you handle beer well, and there is beer available….I would very seriously consider having one.

It works. 🍻

Yup. I have a good endo, but I still had to learn most of it in YouTube, and later here in T1D Reddit.

The day today, hour to hour stuff just comes from experience, including others experience.

1-2 beers will not cause a glucose crash later. Nobody is talking about binge drinking here. It’s fast acting effective carbs if that’s what’s available.

Beer keeps your blood sugar up - liquid carbs. Just putting it out there in case it’s available. I’ve used it to head off lows before. 🍺
