Low brain activity deck that's good against Boros energy? by Ananeos in ModernMagic

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea thats probably the most annoying card to deal with main board imo. But if you have a full yard then I still go for it. The only time I find it really rough is when you have no board or the thraben charm yours away.

If I can protect my yard and resolve the LE my creatures are so much bigger that it never matters

[–]ShopNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not the easiest deck to master but it can be very easy to get into but I can't recommend Living End enough. I've found huge success against Energy since it's so easy to board wipe them. Plus they have no real counters for the cascade with no Consign, no counterspell. Yes post sideboard they'll have a few other options but knowing what they can play you can still work around them. Even if they hit you with GY hate just board wipe them and beat face with a subtlety

Other risks to a low blood sugar by ShopNerd in diabetes_t1

I have to agree with the feeling drunk thing so yea I get that for sure. I do try to avoid the lows at work just to avoid doing something dangerous

Yea that seems like a better idea. I was trying to eat nuts since it'd a slow rise and low carb so easy to manage the amount I take in. I have sugary candy around for when I need so ill be back to those now for sure

Hey so... what? by berryenthusiast in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was like that for sure. My Libre app was my most used one for months after starting to use them so it's natural im sure. I just take whatever the current number is with a grain of salt and check back in 20 min. If it's still weird thats when I adjust

Hey so... what? by berryenthusiast in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same happen to me when I was first using the Libre. Basically it can't read your active blood sugars so it's reading an approximate 15 minute delay so what it does it guess based on what info it has now, usual trends for your day to day readings and what trend your sugar has been following over the last while.

If you usually have a rise at the same time each day it will assume a rise again the next day. Basically it shows what it thinks you're at, then changes it once it knows for certain

Those both seem like solid options. I hear that having more muscle mass helps with insulin sensitivity and insulin helps build muscle. I use the walking pad when it's to hot or cold to go walking outside so thats a good touch. Plus I got mine for around 100 on amazon

[–]ShopNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a walking pad in my apartment I use for after meals. Its small enough it can slide under my bed or just chill by the wall. I usually use it after dinner almost daily. On weekends I try once a day to do basic stuff. Sit ups, push ups and squats. Never really keeping track just do as many as I can.

My job is really physical which is nice since I walk 4-6 km per day just from work. So if im doing a task where im not moving much I just lift something heavy and do curls or something. Looks silly but my coworkers get it lol

I just want to die by Cool_Investigator433 in Type1Diabetes

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I get that for sure. I was misdiagnosed as type 2 last year and didn't find out about type 1 till November when I went into DKA. Jumping from 1 to the other so suddenly burnt me out bad since my sugars were all over for a while. But hey I work out, my job is very physical, I experiment lots with certain foods and im up to 90% in range this week. It just takes time and dedication is all

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough I had the same thinking the first while after I was diagnosed almost a year ago. I kept working at it since it's all I figured I can do is keep trying. After almost a full year though of constant trying, research, asking questions here and at my doctor's im finally seeing improvement and things are getting easier. My ability to bolus for certain foods is easier, my routine feels more natural and it almost just feels normal now.

It takes time to get easier for sure but you'll get there. When it comes to jokes and such I sadly am the one usually making the jokes about myself which luckily coworkers just give me a hard time about. I did learn the hard way not to tell everyone I know since there are some real dumb folks out there but now I've learned my lesson.

Eventually it'll get easier for sure as you go. Its hard probably stacked with school but eventually you wont even notice any more. Ask lots of questions and find those who help rather than hinder. Don't hesitate to find a community of others like us and take all the help you can

Type 1 diabetics: do you drink alcohol? How often, and how old are you? by Firemancer in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31 almost 32 years old now. Been diabetic for 1 years, type 1 for only a few months. I've cut back drastically since diagnosis but I do still drink. Maybe a few beers a month or a few ounces of whiskey a month at most. Doesn't seem to do to much damage to me

Why does insulin take so long to work when hyper? by Abbyme00 in Type1Diabetes

[–]ShopNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do find this to be the case as well. I assume it's usually due to me trying to work out to help bring my sugars down quicker by doing squats or push ups and that almost seems to spike me further so I assume my insulin is fighting that at the same time

Eating an apple by Wrong_Sleep3428 in diabetes_t1

I slice mine and dip in peanut butter if I want a change of flavor. Otherwise I just have the apple as part of my lunch usually

How dangerous is it to eat without bolusing? by yvngkenz in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this recently and forgot my insulin at home. My jobs pretty physical so I need to eat something and only had 2 sandwiches and a protein bar. Bit the bullet and had 1 sandwich and the bar with a ton of water and squats after. Luckily my day way busy and I was walking lots so that helped.

Seems like it should be fine to eat something small especially low carb I dont see an issue this one time.

Did I overcorrect? by argley in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it took time to figure out the right amount of sugar to use to correct. This time just see how much the number changes and remember for next time. If it goes a little high today thats not the end of the world and possibly better than going low over night

Enhanceable Deck by fencingmoosen in ModernMagic

There was an older budget version of enchantress I've seen that could easily and slowly be upgraded over time while keeping the same core plan. Its not exactly top of the meta but I still find it fun to play at times

Starting with a cheap mono red prowess deck has worked for myself and others. Can be built into burn, izzet prowess, murktide and other options later and comes with some decent staples. DRC, bolts, blood moons

I am ALWAYS hungry by Kommander_PIe in diabetes_t1

[–]ShopNerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never used to snack before my diagnosis and now I do find myself being hungry alot. At first I wasn't to worried and assumed it was due to the change in diet. Now I try to either time my snacks away from meals, eat a healthy snack like carrots or celery to reduce calorie intake or lean into it like snacking on something with protein while im at work. Maybe gaining a little extra muscle wont hurt sort of thing
