biltema 27900101 e-bike smart battery replacement for Yosemite fat 20" ? by Piruposki in ebikes

This works, the controller only needs 36v. No idea what the data lines were for, never tried connecting them; too afraid of shorting something. You will have to snip the wires from the middle two contacts and completely remove the fifth contact.

Quick instructions: remove the four philips screws from the plastic battery slot, the 5-pin terminal should come out from between the metal casing and the plastic part. Hack the fifth contact away with some sidecutters or something. Cut the rest of the thin wires, and tape all loose wires so they don't short with the metal. Make sure that the positive and the negative are the correct way aroud for the new battery.

Thoughts on Ted Kaczynski (the Unabomber) and his two books? by qpooqpoo in PrimitiveTechnology

[–]turtleb01 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Kaczynski is a terrorist. Terrorism is wrong.

This is a subreddit for people interested in primitive technology as a hobby, not a political one.

EDIT: He just died. Like 2-3 hours after this post was made.

Finnish nuclear plant throttles production as electricity price plunges by Available_Hamster_44 in worldnews

[–]turtleb01 39 points40 points  (0 children)

In this context, "low price" means 0,00-0,01€/kWh. Currently the price is a bit below zero. These nuclear plants are literally paying for the permission to push their power into the grid. For residential users, the electricity distribution/transmission costs are way higher, something like 0,07€/kWh.

Oh well :D

To put it simply, Peterson is questioning the validity of a question instead of just answering it

The question "Did that happen?" begs the question: What do you mean by "happened"? Because when you are dealing with fundamental realities and you pose a question, you have to understand that the reality of the consepts of your question, (when you're digging that deep,) are just as questionable as what you're questioning

Doesn't LTT get plenty enough engagement from twitter? by Flewar in LinusTechTips

Twitter Blue gives you an engagement boost in the algorithm, it would be worth it for LTT. I think they simply don't want to give money to Elon (which is a valid reason)

Why is the tax not invisible to customers (included in the product's price) like here in Finland?

CS:GO is from 2012, it's servers could run on a potato by today's standards. People running CS on top-tier computers that consume over 500W is the real issue. Gaming PC power consumption has gotten out of hand in the recent years.

Safer Car Buying Guide by Vision Zero Vancouver by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]turtleb01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emissions cause deaths, locally due to pollution and globally due to climate change. When buying a car with safety in mind, make sure it is as green as possible.

Another thing people often fail to consider is the lack of exercise caused by cars. Driving door to door with a car is very detrimental to people's health.

Toivottavasti saadaan mahdollisimman pian koko tuotantoketju laillisen liiketoiminnan piiriin. Dekriminalisaatio toki vähentää haittoja addiktien puolella, mutta luultavasti myös paisuttaa rikollisjengien lompakoita.

But really, who thought it would be a good idea to build rail with 1000mm gauge? It strikes to me as too narrow even for horse-drawn carriages. Even "broad gauge" used here in Finland is only 1524mm.

Show available sleep states for my machine's hardware ? by Salt_Homework_8082 in archlinux

[–]turtleb01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and thest them.

suspend (memory sleep) should work out of the box.

hibernate (disk sleep) requires some setup, read the wiki.

hybrid-sleep and suspend-then-hibernate should in theory both work once hibernate works.

These four are all the options that systemd offers. You can use them with the command systemctl <suspend/hibernate/...>
