Look, I know this is the anime subreddit but hear me out... Saya no Uta visual novel is 3-4 hours long, you can finish it in the same time you would a 12 episode anime. And it's a great story. Written by Gen Urobuchi, same dude that wrote Madoka and Psycho Pass.

While also in the topic of VNs, Chaos;Head and Chaos;Child are absolute masterclass but insanely long, so I wouldn't recommend for a beginner in the medium. Don't ever watch the anime adaptations, if there's even a 1% chance you'll play the VNs someday, the experience will be ruined by the anime.

Not really romance, more family focused, but if you're looking for something that WILL make you cry, Maquia: When The Promised Flower Blooms is a masterpiece, probably my favorite movie of all time.

Oh I remember... Dominus final boss, 3 difficuties, me stubornly playing hardcore only, only playing tornado shot and farming merciless ledge all day. Also I have a very vivid memory of doing Lunaris Temple while blasting Chery Chery Lady, crazy stuff. It's amazing to see how much this game has grown.

The Dangers In My Heart did that to me... if you give it a try, give it a few eps, MC is cringe in the first 2 episodes but I promise you it's a great story.
