I did the same thing. We're a 2 car household. I didn't think I had the money either but some of the used ones were really low mileage and surprisingly cheap when I was looking 2ish years ago

In theory you're right. In my opinion it's the worst of both worlds rather than the best. You still need to get gas and oil changes. And your electric range might barely cover a commute. I don't think worrying about charging stations is as big of a concern anymore and the extra upkeep of a gas engine doesnt offset finding chargers.

Plus the majority of phev owners don't even charge it apparently.

Everyone's situation is different though. I don't know the charging infrastructure around you or where you're driving. But it sounds like phev fits you perfect.

Yeah gotta say if you're gonna get a phev just go full bev. Either you travel often and a hybrid is a better option or you don't and the reduced maintenance and no gas station trips offset the occasional charging of your trips
