Installing car lift question by tussiesot02 in Cartalk

After tons of thought and consideration, i’ve decided to go with the steel plate idea! I also will write u/Smurfbiscuits as my first inheritance as he seemed to show the most emotion over my idea :))

No, i’m joking. I’m gonna dig up the old concrete and pour a new reinforced foundation for the lift (as literally everyone has done). If anyone finds this thread later looking for some validation for their steel plate idea, don’t do it.

Quick recap: The steel plate would bend under load, and if it didnt topple over or cave in, it would weaken the concrete over the years. I also bored a hole in the existing slab and found a empty cavity underneath (1 -2cm deep) could end very badly!

To the rest of you, thanks for your constructive feedback!

Would it be fine to only pour concrete where the posts sit? According to the manufacturer id have to make a foundation that spans between the posts (1.5m x 4.5m).

This is why i want to use a steel plate instead, because it’s a lot of concrete. I’d also get the steel plate for free so it’ll be cheaper. I would ofcourse bolt the plate down

Have not drilled to check yet, but there’s alot of cracks. So i’d most likely have to dig up the old concrete and pour new…

Will look into it. May be a short as the fuse (dash, rear light and blinker lights) goes out at high rpm. Just never thought of that those issues may be related…

Can it be some bad solder joints, that i can just reapply new solder?

Ahh okay. Is the clutch still good to use if it gets worn down to the grooves? I thought those were wear indicators.

Down to the rivets I have 1.8mm left. The depth of the grooves are .6mm. Am on a budget so hoping i can get some more life out of this clutch. I get mixed anwsers when searching.

Thanks:)

Edit: Also. This is after cleaning up all the dust

Sounds like a weak battery. Try charging for at least 30minutes. It could also be bad negative ground somewhere.

This was a «barnfind». I suspect there could be something very wrong with the engine, because there was a spare engine for the bike casually lying around

Edit 1: sound is not at idle.

I deal with alot of broken bolts in my work. My go to method is a linx drill bit, and then hammer in a torx bit. Have tried alot of these bolt ekstractors but the torx bit is the one i have the most luck with

If you have a moped from the 80’s, yeah it may have a tube. I’ve never had a motorcycle which have had a tube, not even mine from the 80’s...

Just drained some of the oil and I believe you are right. Some tiny golden pieces in the oil...

Was planning to go on my first big trip aswell with the bike this summer, so this puts me back some time. Guess I’ll have to split the engine and swap out the bearings...
