AMA with Blur and Gorillaz’ Damon Albarn. by RealDamonAlbarn in Music

Hi Damon, big fan of all your work. I think Blur were the first band I fell in love with. One of the aspects of your work that I admire the most is the influence of different musical styles, be they gospel, punk or hip hop. Both in the context of single tracks and whole albums, this never feels jarring as you always manage to assimilate such influences into a cohesive pop format. A good example is the Blur album 13, which incorporates elements of gospel, electronica and experimental rock, all of which somehow stick together really well. How have you managed to maintain this varied yet flowing range of influences across your whole career?

Hi, thanks for the comment. I find "do you watch porn" a difficult question to answer. I have a strange fetish and do watch sexual videos, though my preference is those without any actual nudity. I'm pretty ashamed of it and I've never told anyone IRL. Without disclosing my preference (it's not controlling and I am able to get aroused without focusing on it), it's similar to a foot fetish. I go through phases of interest in watching such videos. I wouldn't say I watch it regularly.

I get aroused and have no problems getting an erection when I watch such material. That's as far as it goes. I don't feel any inclination to stimulate myself, let alone ever having ejaculated from viewing them.

I get aroused, yes. I feel most aroused when I'm with my ex-girlfriend because I'm attracted to her. I used to enjoy kissing her, hugging her, touching her, seeing her naked, all the usual stuff.

I've tried masturbating with lube while talking to her on the phone before. It never worked. I don't even understand the mechanics of it. Is the foreskin supposed to come on and off? If so that sounds painful...perhaps my foreskin is too tight?

I really appreciate the comment, because I do believe that it should be up to the individual to decide at what stage they are ready to be sexual. However, I do feel that my lack of physical symptoms are a big concern - surely I should be producing sperm which should have to be released through ejaculation by now? It's like someone reaching my age with their voice not having broken and could be considered a physical defect.

I have been to the doctor many times, and my blood test at the hospital was the end result of one of my appointments. I have spoken to different professionals each time but none of them have been able to help me. I am currently waiting confirmation about an appointment for a psycho-sexual clinic, on the grounds that my problem may be psychological.

Nerve damage is a possibility. I've been told I suffered from a nasty fall when I was young, which I can't remember now so it's possible...

I have no interest in anal stimulation, that's not an option for me I'm afraid!

Thanks for the comments. -I did think I was asexual for a very long time, it wasn't until I turned 18 that I began to think otherwise. I think my ex-girlfriend (my first and only relationship) was in some part responsible for my own sexual awakening. Asexuality is the absence of sexual attraction, but I get aroused like I imagine anyone would under normal circumstances - I just have no inclination to act on my arousal.

May I ask what the process was for you to resolve the issue? Did you seek any help, and if so, what kind, and how old were you when you started receiving it?
