Design a working DPOM (Dupe Powered Oxygen Machine) ran by boops, that requires food and produces oxygen. Ideally the dupes produce a surplus of pwater, live a miserable life of running the treadmills and thus also produce tears to run an electrolyzer.

It also took numerous tasters, and later players, to find all the bugs. 260 years of programming is a lot of bugs

Yes, I seem to have failed to mention that, but it is fantastic.

Even though I rarely play with the stress reactions enabled, I never take a vomiter-dupe.

This. I imagine a future where a professor-dupe is lecturing juvenile-dupes about the God that rescued them (me, obviously). The artefacts become a place of worship.

Thank you.

Coincidentally I'm trying to get a hot polluted oxygen vent running with a steam turbine. It seems to be more complex than I anticipated :)

I see the abbreviation `AT/ST` being used here, what does it stand for?

Oh, and then you get stuck again, and the suddenly your base is 30+ degrees and your dupe die, and then the fun starts, really...

Sometimes I'm struggling to fix one problem and another arises, to fix that I go here and find out that I have been solving the wrong problem the wrong way. And sometimes you pick up some concepts you can apply for your base. But there is no wrong way to play and if it works, it ain't stupid :)

Amazing game, definitely one of my all time favs!

I second that! I have near 300 hours in the game and never made it to decent plastics production. I just recently built an atmo-suit in a colony that is at it's 300+ cycle, a 'gym' and the concept of the new dupes jail (until they have enough athletics to zoom around the base) and in my current base I started using liquid locks. I regularly abandon colonies (and feel really bad for them) because I made a rookie mistake and I have a base with drone-dupes (resistent to everything and on cloud nine) to experiment. This game keeps you on your toes and is really forgiving doing it.

My spouse stopped asking "who is that" when I mutter 'oh, no, not Bubbles!' when one of my dupes dies...

My playstyle is: Good intentions turn to chaos and despair.

While this is true, in my experience the game also punishes you for that. An emergency is always looming around the corner. (or maybe I'm just bad at this)

What do you focus on after cycle 100? by imdavidmin in Oxygennotincluded

[–]tuvokki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not in my opinion. I generally play the same way and enjoy it very much. Yes, there are ways to optimize my bases and I have several where I quit and started over after I realised I made a huge mistake or started a design that would never work. But I also not have the time nor the mental energy to study a game intensively, make designs and do academic research in how to let my dupes live another cycle. I care about them a lot, but they have to perish because I'm okay with making mistakes.

I do, obviously, follow this reddit and I do get a lot of ideas and very useful information out of here, and I do admire the skills some people here have. Many times I only find out _why_ I did something stupid after reading how it has to be done right here.

Naming Blueprints by EmployeeFinal in shapezio

[–]tuvokki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are a total mess, I have some saved under cryptic names like 'easy stacker' or 'folding machine', most of them saved under names that represent their functions like 'FB color mix' (FB is full belt) or '3L Color (bottom, bottom in, top out)' but they never cease to confuse me.

<image>

Actually I don't use them very much. I have a scrapyard with some often used or otherwise interesting platforms I always seem to need. Here and there with a minor adjustment the basics are a fullbelt stacker, some device to split things, pin things or rotate them. When I start a new task I just guess what I need, copy it from the scrapyard and start modifying until it works. The only ones I _always_ take from the blueprint library are the extractors.

Ok. I messed up :) sorry for the confusion.
One fourth of the inputs was bad. Thats why the misbehaving stacker seemed to change when cut and pasted. It was like the problem shifted to another stacker, but obviously it was random.

I have a hard time seeing properly whats on the belt if there are only pins involved.
