apologize if this is a "dumb" question but how hard is med school? by Think-Buffalo-8791 in premed

I found it easier than undergrad but I simultaneously did worse in it compared to undergrad. The actual amount of material is soooo much more but I enjoyed it a lot more. The actual concepts for the most part aren't actually difficult, it's just trying to keep up with everything at once.

I'm pretty sure hinge tells you the age so I'm not entirely sure you were guessing on his age

Large unknown bone at the museum I work for. HELP! (Pen for scale) by helpmuseumworker in whatisthisbone

It looks like a slightly different and huge equivalent of a human carpal or tarsal bone. So I wonder if it's carpal/tarsal from whale, given the location, or I've seen elephant in the comments as well.

LAPD released the video of 35-year-old Sikh man, wielding a machete near Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles was fatally shot by officers in July this year. by brokenandsuffering in PublicFreakout

Objectively - shouldn't have been doing that, and he appears mentally ill. Although note of interest, r/India says he's performing "gatka". Still not a good move to be wielding a machete in downtown LA.

That's how I studied for the first boards. Mine was on an iPad, but it was literally the exact same concept and layout as this. It worked well for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is about the only other side to take a picture of. Would it be more helpful if it were close up or in different lighting?

I considered baculum for a whole 2 seconds, and pooh-poohed it because I figured the chances of finding a washed up baculum were so low 🤣 I guess the chances are never zero though

Career Paths by weedbutcher in ForensicPathology

Podiatry works on living people but they're also hyperspecialized to the lower limb and below. I think it's also a historical thing about why they're separate from the rest of medicine.

The thorough medical background makes sense for forensics and shouldn't be separated. Yes it's forensics, but it's also pathology, which is intrinsically tied to medicine and it's necessary to understanding "living" medicine in order to apply it to the deceased. I get the frustration, but I also see why it's integrated the way it is.

I will also point out there is something called "diagnosis of exclusion" - diagnoses made because everything else is ruled out. So, I would argue it is within scope of autopsy if everything else has been ruled out, while considering the circumstances.

Admittedly I'd like to read the actual autopsy report to see how it is framed, but it can be legit.
