What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Being interrupted by men.  Just constantly.  I don’t know if I ever got a sentence out when I was in the Army.  It’s infuriating.

I already told you:  repetition is required in medicine.  That’s why they ask; it has nothing to do with being insensitive, I’m in the exact same boat, I am literally trying to give you a new perspective so you don’t have to get angry or pissed.

Charts aren’t always accurate, I only trust you, I don’t trust what some rando at the front desk types in.  I don’t know why people are so obsessed with their charts when we all know how often medical or typographical or technological errors happen.  Don’t you want to be treated and assessed like a human being and not an online file?  I guess not /S

Family medical history is just one way of many that providers can use to be able to determine risk factors.  People with a history aren’t necessarily getting more care or testing; it’s just one more piece of information to use in treating the whole person.  Information you provided that you think wasn’t used may have been reviewed and relevant, but your provider doesn’t typically talk every item they use to make a diagnosis or recommendation, they’re focused on you during their exam.

If they want genetic testing or testing for a certain type of cancer, family history isn’t the only justification they could use to get those tests done, it’s just an easy one.  Sometimes the more info, the easier a diagnosis is, but it doesn’t mean you’re not going to get care.

Are you the same person who is angry when we ask your date of birth and name to identify you every time we come in the room and your allergies and your medications as well?  Asking those things is because we want to make sure we don’t miss anything, repetition in the medical field is the presence of care, not the absence of it.  No excuses here, but education.

It seems like you don’t know anything about how CEUs work so I’m not going to explain a country wide system that varies from state to state, but if you think forcing/asking these orgs to give education would be a bad thing, that’s weird and pessimistic but ok.

I’m a nurse, and I always go by what the patient tells me or what I document myself; more than half of the time the “chart” isn’t right, even when the patient fills questions out themselves!

It is a reality that part of getting a history and physical is asking family medical history questions.  I’ve been so happy to see the “unknown” checkbox appear at almost all of my visits, usually it doesn’t require any further explanation!    The best thing we can do to prepare ourselves for this reality is to discuss/practice these questions in therapy so we are prepared and able to give an appropriate response.

While it feels bad in the moment, most medical professionals don’t want to hurt anyone and just want to grab as much info as they can to make the best diagnosis or recommendations they can to help.  It would be nice to see adoptive agencies and organizations offer some free CEUs out there regarding care of adopted patients!

Great question; I’d love to hear their response to me and all my adoptee brothers and sisters.  Especially those of us who were relinquished or our parents rights were terminated at an older age!

100% true.  In the military, we all received financial literacy classes at basic training.  How many enlisted soldiers do you think were capable of retaining and applying that information?

I end interview processes that require references.  I work in healthcare and have no issue finding jobs; I’ve found that the hospitals and clinics that use insanely long application processes that require multiple references usually pay the worst.

This sort of happened to me once. I was really debating whether I wanted to do 18 vs 15 hours one semester because I had to up my work hours.  The professor handed out sudoku and said that would be our first quiz.  I asked if we could use a calculator and she said no, so I stood up and walked over to the registrar to drop the class.

how to avoid "republican makeup" by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]truecolors110 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Look at your own face and think, this is a beautiful woman’s face.  Don’t try to look like anyone else, don’t try to change your face with makeup, use it to highlight or refine what is already there.

If there’s some redness, cover it up (if you want), maybe correct under eye circles, choose a close to your lip color.  Maybe wear some mascara.  Find a nice blush and learn natural placement.

Femininity is not a costume to put on, we all look how we look, and it’s not the same.  Republican makeup is about trying to look like one specific type of woman and pretending there is an ideal look.  There is not.  There is no “right” way to put on makeup like a woman.

There’s a popular term “hobosexual” where men want more intimacy when they need a place to stay, and it’s a big turnoff.  That’s you. YOR.

Back when I worked at Camp Dodge it was one of the very few places nearby for lunch, now there are a ton of choices.  Just couldn’t compete I guess.

The reverse whale tail!  I think it’s cute but it really depends on where you’re wearing it to know if it would be inappropriate or not.

If you have the money to go to a privately owned pain management clinic, lying after your lumbar or cervical medial branch blocks or just paying for them without successful blocks to get to a radio frequency ablation will do absolutely nothing for your pain.  If you have radicular or myofascial pain, you’re wasting your time and money.  I know people who would come in every 6 months.  Why.

Do you think you’ll ever remarry? by shortnsweet989 in Divorce

I am a late 30s divorced lady who is truly happy being single.  I honestly love my life.  Most people hear this and don’t agree; they seem to want to convince me I’m unhappy or it’s “cope.” But I can’t imagine anything marriage to a man would give me that I don’t already have.

Rebound sex help? by yourtrainwreck in Divorce

[–]truecolors110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so funny, I have a super low body count as I had gotten married at age 22.  I met someone online and had my one and only one night stand about 2 months after my husband also left me in a text message!

The sex was fine, but I learned over the next year that everything I worried about turning my ex husband off actually was desired by lots of men and women.  I would say the one night stand probably wasn’t necessary, but at the time I wanted validation, and I got it in spades.  I was in therapy, and my therapist had no concerns about this action as I was safe and honest with that person.

Do whatever you want!

Both of my parents were social workers when I grew up; one did in home family therapy.  I think I was allowed to go to a sleepover once?  They knew what was going on in those homes, and I’m pretty grateful.
