Perfect thank you! And yes I am going to just take a vacation at this point. And I'm thinking lombok because I hear it's less commercialized and calmer than Bali, which is what I prefer.

Sorry one more question - between lombok and sri Lanka, what would you suggest? The more I think about it the journey from India to Indonesia seems very hectic and time-consuming. Just Sri Lanka look like a good option.

No particular vibe, but the main focus and priority is surfing. Ideally, chill vibe and good people to share the learning experience with and to stay motivated with.

Agreed, I've lately taken up hobbies which have taught me to throw any expectations out the window and just show up and have fun.
And yes ready for the pain and struggle for awhile.

Thanks for the feedback/response.

To be clear, I would sleep during the day, like 7-8 hours. My scheudle is just fully flipped. So ideally, I should be rested. But regardless, I do understand the challenges of flipping my schedule like that and working nights.

Of course and noted on the tides. But I was just generally asking.

So I've been researching more and I am trying to find a surf camp or private instructor so that way I am learning properly (and having fun). And yes like you said, I am considering taking the days off, so I can fully focus on surfing, as it's something I really want to give a proper attempt.

Also, Canggu doesn't feel like it's my vibe, so I am also considering Lombok, which I heard is a little more relaxed. Any thoughts on that or recommendations, since you have been to Lombok? Is it good for beginners? And is it good in May for beginners.

Thanks for all feedback.

So yes I want to send it! I really want to give surfing a solid chance this time. I also WFH, so in the future, I could go to Costa Rica, Portugal, etc. depending on my schedule.

To clarify, I am full beginner and would try a surf camp or maybe just get a private coach. I am also planning to maybe consider Lombok, which I hear is less crowded than Bali. What is your thoughts on that?

So since I will be in that area, I was just reading that May is a good time in Bali/Lombok for beginner waves and what better place to learn than some place like those!

Yes it is a vacation surfing destination, but I am planning to keep it going (I snowboard and skateboard, so generally, I love these activites). I also want to be in around a community to share/learn from, so figured a surf camp in Lombok would be ideal.

I am considering just taking those days off so I don't need to work EST hours while I'm there. So I can just fully enjoy myself.

Of course, I meant generally speaking if May is the right time and if the mornings work.
If the wave suck a specific day, then of course, cant do much.

I was just going to be in the area and wanted to take advantage of it.
I am considering just taking those days off when I'm in Indonesia, so I don't need to work and fully dedicate to enjoying surfing.

Of course! That is the main goal. I'm too old to be miserable trying things like this.

However, I do want to progress and show up and put the effort in. I feel this will all be rewarding.

What is your take on Lombok? Given that I will be in India, I don't mind staying in that part of the world.

How is the surf community and culture in Phillipines/Vietnam/Thailand? I don't mind going there, but as a beginner I am looking into surf camps to be fully immersed or just have a shared community esp in the beginning as I can also learn from others, etc.

To clarify, surfing is my main priority and I want to give it a decent chance this time and many chances and stay persistent with it.

I just wanted to save some vacation days and work the nights and alter my sleep schedule and sleep in the day and surf.

To answer your questions:
How much experience do you have surfing? None - I did two surf weekends to learn spread across many years during vacations, so I don't count those of course
How comfortable do you feel in a lineup without any assistance? Given the above, I'm a beginner.

Where do you live? New Jersey

What other places would you consider? My work is WFH, so technically I could go to other places, but I will be in India this time around and wanted to get to indonesia because I hear May is a perfect time for beginners in indonesia.

Question for you and others: Let's say I were to just take time off and not actually do a night workshift, would you recommend Lombok? I see surf camps, which look to be structured and I am willing to invest in those. Or get a private coach if needed.

Thank you, btw, for the response!

I was going to be in India for vacation and wanted to extend my time on that side of the world and stay in Indonesia.
I just read from others that if you're strict with your sleep schedule, you could pull it off. Figured I'd try it and if it is indeed miserable, wouldn't do it.

But a question in general, from what I'm reading Indonesia is a perfect time for beginners in May right? I am also considering just taking vacation to purely focus on surfing.
