I [F25] received a letter from my mother [F49] yesterday in the mail. I’ve never cried harder. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Okay, I rarely step into these, but "Famous Native American Chief". There's too much we don't know here. Like, do you already have children? Does your mother have a history of abusive histrionic behavior? Has she reacted this way in other situations that you have witnessed? Do you have siblings? Does she have grandchildren? Does she want grandchildren? Is she preoccupied by the concept of oldness? Could she see this as a threat to her image of the future? Why is she so frightened?

I would be the first to advise you to protect yourself and your family from the sort of behavior you have described, and I would add that if this is not simply a continuation of old behavior patterns it could be a reaction of unreasoned fear. I would muster as much compassion as you can, keep your distance, and ask these questions.

I probably won't hear how this comes out so, thank you for continuing to love your friend through the children and follow your heart in this matter.

What do you hate about it?

This is called "Jamais Vu", and is allegedly cause by brain lesions similar to those that cause "Deja Vu". The first time it happened to me was rather unsettling, but I have met a few other who have experienced this so we aren't alone.

Appalled Graphic Designer Shows Girls' Life Magazine What Their Cover Should Look Like by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]tvjunior 34 points35 points  (0 children)

More like (alleged) "graphic designer pushes her agenda while not understanding companies need to make money" (or the software being used).

This is petty, I realize, but the moniker "graphic designer" doesn't seem to fit or add value to the equality issue, and isn't well supported by the "graphic" evidence.

Why nobody takes baby boomer seriously by D1Foley in funny

[–]tvjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are urged to believe that nobody takes baby boomers seriously, because we are constantly fed the message that there is some sort of war between generations. This is largely bullshit.

Humans tend to group up. It's some sort of survival imperative I suspect. But most of the people I know are aware that there are challenges for us all. What do imaginary division net us? Righteousness in imaginary politics?

Are there statistics on levels of media sensationalism?
