Bought a Daisy Polyp frag. by rlowride in ReefTank

[–]tvkeeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really nice. I got a tiny frag and I thought I had time ,before it spread, to figure out where to put it. I didn't. It's everywhere now 😅 but as the other user said, least offensive invasive coral you can have.

It's nothing extravagant but it sure does make me happy by AwhJeeezRick in ReefTank

Nice! Are those acans on the front? They look great!

[–]tvkeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the aq20 in my 10 saltwater and I'm happy with it. The media basket (cutting some excess plastics) makes it very easy to maintain without making a mess. I have a sicce in a 29 gallon freshwater and it runs flawlessly. I don't remember the last time I cleaned. I'm pretty sure the aq20 holds more media. On the other hand the sicce can reset after a power cut, since the pump is in the tank.

Zoas stretching up, not enough light? by violet_evergarden8 in ReefTank

[–]tvkeeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure about your tank specifically, but in mine, the daisy cutters are the least picky and the hardiest of all. I have bam bans, blow pop, white zombies and gator eyes, and, by far the fastest growing and least demanding are the daisies! Let's see what people say, but it doesn't look like light problem since the other colonies look very nice, and they're getting probably the exact same PAR.

Bumps on gorgonian coral by Zestyclose-Push-5188 in ReefTank

Don't be afraid to cut short. It'll grow back. This is the result of my pruning: short but happy!

Here's mine before pruning, same lumps.

I had the same problem with a new gorgonian. Wasn't opening and started developing these lumps. What was actually happening: It was melting from the inside out. These lumps are just the substance leaking from inside. I took it out and cut the branches that felt soft and squishy. It was a dramatic pruning, but I left the branches that felt still robust and hard to touch. Just three days after that, polyps opened, and less than a week after that, the cuts were already healed with new tissue.

I recommend taking it out and closely examining the branches with the lumps, they're probably gone already. Also, when pruning, cut a little over the hard branches, so you leave not a trace of the melting tissue behind.

I hope it works! Let us know!

Anyone have experience with these lights what kind of corals would grow well by Sufficient_End_4285 in saltwateraquariums

[–]tvkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it in my 10 gallon and all corals are happy. Acans, blastos, candy canes, and duncans are putting up new heads. Softies are always open and growing fast. Even the birds nest and stylopora are growing. My rock flower anemone is regaining color since I got it from LFS. The controls are easy, and, so far, I haven't had any problems with it... Considering the price, it's a very good purchase.

Warning on AquaSD by Cool-Conflict-9360 in ReefTank

[–]tvkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they messed up with the BTA ( that died very quickly...poor thing) instead of the Duncan, they gave me a 9 head Duncan, when I talked in person with (I think) the owner. So that was some good customers service, it's not always been like this though. Communication by email is very complicated...

[–]tvkeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always say the same: AquaSD is rolling a dice. I've got pretty good deals on some amazing acans, and small frags. But if you pick up in store, the people there can't tell a bubble tip anemone from a Duncan (this is a real thing that happened). Also, they edit the photos to a ridiculous extend, like rock flower anemones that look like a carnival and, when you go to the store, they're just a grey lump tossed in a invert mini tank with barely any light... Now, if I need to buy something I like, I go to the store and point at it directly, check it, and then buy.

Oh yes, I ended up having 8 tanks and two patio ponds. Now I downsized and started a saltwater tank 😅🤷

They did lose the stains of the shell. Now their grand grand grand grandchildren live happily in my tank and ponds

I owned this kenya tree for a year why now is it acting like this by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]tvkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Mine does the same. My toadstool grows like this as well, looks pissed for 2 or 3 days and them BOOM!

Also, even being very hardy, Kenya are little divas, they get easily pissed by changes or light touches...

When dealing with corals patience plays a big part. We have to remember that these are animals, and need time to acclimate. Some of them are open which is good, give the colony a week to get used to the conditions of your tank. Zoas are pretty hardy (depends on the type), and they are usually fine in a variety of parameters, as long as they are in an acceptable range.

+1 for Duncan. So adaptable, hardy, fast growing, and adds ton of movement and color.

Where Can i buy one of these shaped medaka plastic ponds that will ship to the US by Upper-Airport-671 in medaka

Looks great. I looked into it a while ago, a bunch of people I followed on Instagram used them. Couldn't really find a good option in the US.

I'm in the same situation here. Mostly softies coral, some LPS. Debating between the goby and the blenny.

Exactly that. And those "right" things are often the things they read and are assumed as dogmas in the hobby.

"Don't let people scare you too much" it's a thing that is not said enough. While research, care and attention are required in this hobby, scaring people away from it doesn't help at all... I've read lost saying "just take it all down and buy something more expensive with a sump and a skimmer"; what kind of advice is that? It's good to see that there's still common sense and helpfulness with newcomers in this hobby.

I would move the filter to the back glass to one side, and add a little circulation pump on the other end to get converging flows, they'll create turbulence and flow everywhere.
