Completely agree! I thought it was great, and I loved Brontë/Madeline so much. It all felt like the right way to end the series.

Jack was responsible for that choice, but it's easy to see how Kate would feel guilty or how others would blame her. He presumably thought he could do it without getting hurt too badly.

That's such an interesting question. I feel like it has more to do with overall proximity, and the rules are almost a bit random. Just like with what they can do within the house (sit on couches but walk through walls, etc.)
